John Diggle is perhaps not destined to be a Green Lantern, but it appears he will light the way for some would-be heroes in a new series in development at The CW.
Arrowverse vet David Ramsey is set to reprise his role as Diggle in Justice U, a new series being written by Michael Narducci (The Vampire Diaries) and Zoanne Clack (Grey’s Anatomy).
Per the official synopsis, “After spending years fighting alongside masked heroes, John Diggle embarks on a new mission to recruit five young meta humans to live undercover as freshmen at a prestigious university. There he will oversee their education and train them to become the heroes of tomorrow.”
Ramsey will also direct the pilot, in the event the project moves forward at The CW.
Since Arrow‘s end almost two years ago, Ramsey has been on a tour of sorts of the remaining Arrowverse shows, reprising here and there his role as Diggle — who ostensibly (but not quite really) has been grappling with some sort of “calling” ever since he found a green glowing something in Arrow’s series finale — while also directing episodes of each series.
Ramsey’s latest directorial effort, for Superman & Lois, will air this coming Tuesday (off a script penned by Narducci and Kristi Korzec), followed by his latest Diggle encore on Wednesday’s Batwoman.

I’ll reserve judgement, but we got a Vampire Diaries School/University in Legacies, are getting a The Boy’s University spin off. (It would be nothing like this obviously) but the new recruits on Arrow were kinda not the best part of Arrow’s last few seasons. This sounds like more of the same. I know there is a lantern Corp coming, but Just make Diggle a Lantern already.
We shall see. Depends on casting.
….WHY should John Diggle be a Green Lantern??? Because he’s black and his name is John like John Stewart/Green Lantern?! What both a lazy and racist thing to say!
Has nothing to do with race and more with the fact that Arrowverse has long since hinted he was John Stewart and an episode of Arrow confirmed his stepfathers surname is Stewart. Arrowverse may have had a change of heart though.
What sort of hints?
Well, he literally has a green lantern ring.
His name is John Diggle Stewart. Stewart is his stepfather name that he dropped. The Flash, Jay Garrick from the other universe say John and said,” Hey John where’s your right?”. Meaning in his universe John Stewart is the green lantern. At the end of the Arrow series a box that has a green glowing content was hinted at being the ring that felled out of the sky. What more hints do you need
They been teasing it forever. He might get it and play another universe version of himself in the upcoming Green Lantern show.
Calm down, dude. They’ve been hinting for a long time, do your own research but you’re on a site that has reported about a whole lot of it

legacies was never truly about the supernatural school aspect it came off more of a buffy/power rangers copycat so it might not truly count
vampire academy is coming though but not on the cw
Like the actor and the character, but why keep announcing new series when the future of the network itself is such a huge question mark?
Because Warners will be happy to have content for HBO Max.
Presumably, any prospective buyer would be acquiring the development slate too, so having promising content in the pipeline might be a selling point.
If you’re selling your used car, do you not keep it washed? #MicDrop
I feel like TVLine is the one site where I didn’t hear that news about the CW. Any pieces planned for what a sale could mean?
In the scenario where Nexstar acquires The CW and decides to rebrand the entertainment network into a political channel (most likely, with there history!),
The CW’s massive national audience could very well be deprived of their favorite CW shows.
I read this as well which is why I’m confused why shows are even being developed for the CW right now. Sure HBO Max would happily take more content but I feel like WarnerMedia Viacom should try to focus on finding potential homes for their current series rather than letting them all just die. We can’t assume those shows will just automatically move to HBO Max and Paramount+
Unlikely that would happen.. there are plenty of political channels and WB and CBS are likely to keep development deals with the new network.
It is far too preliminary (and the deal not-at-all-imminent) for a consumer-facing news site (versus a Hollywood trade) to report on just yet.
What would happen to all the shows if the sale went through?
Disagree, Matt. I count on you guys to keep me informed, and in this case, you didn’t.
It takes a village. Love our sister site trades!

If I’m buying the car the last thing I’m concerned about is something so superficial like whether I have to wash it.
I’d rather know if the engine is running well, how the brakes are holding up, or if the tires have substantial or disconcerting wear.

I’m sorry but washing a 17 year old Pontiac Aztek that’s hemorrhaging oil and can’t get out of 1st gear doesn’t make it more appealing to buyers.
But does that Aztek have a newly replaced windshield with the blue masking tape still on it? ;-)
Trust me if it was dirty it would be less appealing
My understanding is that a condition of the sale requires the new owner to still purchase a % of content from WB and CBS studios with streaming right likely going to HBOMax and Paramount +.
This sound more CW than the new Gotham series which would do better developed as a Titans spinoff for HBOMax as the premise was pretty much set up already last season on Titans.
Whatever happens with a sale, any network that buys the cw takes their shows with it. So if cw renews all their current shows like Flash, Superman, etc. then the new company takes on those contracts for the new season. Obviously after that next season they can decide what to do themselves but any contracts the cw has in place at the time of the sale gets transferred to the buyer.
Well, you have to admit, the premise certainly sounds like the CW-est show that ever existed.
I have a lot of questions about what kind of situation would force Diggle to send rookie metas to college. Hopefully its justified, rather than a blatant gimmick.
It’s probably not a real university, its just part of Argus training.
Check the description again. Young metas undercover at an established, prestigious university. Unless maybe it’s the heretofore-unmentioned ARGUS equivalent of Annapolis or West Point.
Well they’re obviously going to fight people, specifically villains. And if they’re in a university undercover with Diggle as their teacher it makes sense that you know..
What situation would force Diggle to send rookies undercover?
It’s the Arrowverse, so not a stretch to assume that part of the blame lies with Barry Allen.
It’s always Barry.
This sounds soooo bad. The CW just trash dive for ideas. A Diggle series where hes a family man fighting crime would be waaaaay better
Concept is decent I suppose, but also feels a bit like a retread given the Canary network from Arrow. Also Diggle is the wrong character as they seem to have already sent him down the Green Lantern path. Feels more like a Ray Palmer plot line maybe with some help from Ryan Choy and maybe a recurring role for Jax.
If they’re bringing him back couldn’t we just get a Diggle GL series!!
I was really hoping Diggle would be a part of the Green Lantern series on HBO Max. It’s just the perfect outlet to contour his GL story.
this sounds way way better than gotham knights and naomi imo, im looking forward to this
Hope they can add some of the other actors who used to be on shows.. bring in Dreamer or one of Black Lightning’s kids… maybe use it to wrap up Mia’s story…
Definitely! I’d love for Mia to have a full-time or recurring role on the show. She’d fit in well as a student at the university, and she can help to keep an eye on Diggle’s meta-human students. And Mia’s storyline could also tie into her search for her brother.
Why???? I’m seeing a number of articles saying the company that is about to buy the CW from. Warner and CBS will most likely do away with the programs currently on the CW. Seems kinda pointless to start working on projects that die with the CW.
when was it confirmed all the cw shows are going to get cancelled when they are bought or are you just assuming?
It wasn’t. Pure, rampant speculation.
good to know
Pass. Diggle has been a POS since Arrow season 6 they ditch his sanctimonious hypocrite ass then it may be a half decent show even if the plot is X-meny.
I’m confused… I thought the CW was going on sale… why are they making more shows when their status is up in the air?
am i missing something?, what rule states if a channel is for sale they have to not make new shows?
idk where this idea that the cw being bought means the death of all their programs
I wish they just developed a « Justice L » special event instead. I mean after COIE everyone want to see the real Justice League, the Flash special event did’nt nearly feed our needs. Arrow finale wrapped up Oliver journey in a beautiful way but it also left so many opened door: Diggle, Dinah, Mia, William… and specially Diggle: we know nothing about his immediate future except “worlds are calling” nor long term future, he has been MIA for a while in the bleak future of season 7-8. Anyway I will watch but until we know more on how related this show is to the other Arrowverse show let’s keep our hopes low…
Honestly sounds pretty bad. And considering the grimdark, violent world the Arrowverse shows are set in, it is difficult for me to believe that Diggle is going to find a bunch of kids (even if they are metahumans) and train them to take part in that violence. He’s basically sending them to their death, all because they have abilities regular humans don’t, as if their lives matter less because they aren’t normal human.
Diggle deserves his own show but as GREEN LANTERN!
Eh, whatever keeps David working. He’s a lovely in person and if they want to center a series on him I’m here for it, no matter how out of left field it kind of feels.
You’re really sweet, Lexi.
