Best Medicine Cast Katey Sagal As Louisa's Scheming Mom — Get Details
"Best Medicine" is adding a key figure's mother in Season 2. And from the character description, it appears the apple fell far from the tree (and then rolled even farther, just to be sure).
TV legend Katey Sagal ("Sons of Anarchy," "Married... With Children") will recur as Louisa's estranged mom, Kathleen Gavin, TVLine has learned. Her episodes will air later this season.
Per the official character description, Kathleen is "combative, conniving, and always looking out for herself" and holds the unique distinction of being "the only person in the world who's not welcome in Port Wenn." Sounds like pretty much the opposite of sweet, kind, selfless Louisa (played by Abigail Spencer), no?
When Kathleen returns to the tiny Maine town after being away for a long time, her presence will greatly complicate Louisa's life, we hear. (After all, there's a reason the townsfolk refer to Mrs. Gavin as "Shady Katie.")
Katey Sagal's other TV works includes a few iconic roles
Katey Sagal played Peggy Bundy for all 11 seasons of the Fox comedy "Married... With Children" and portrayed Gemma on the seven-season run of FX's "Sons of Anarchy," a role for which she won the 2011 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Drama.
Her numerous other TV credits include "The Conners," "The Abandons," "Rebel," "Superior Donuts," "8 Simple Rules," "Tucker," "Boston Legal," "Lost," "This Is Us," and "Shameless." She also voices characters in series like "Futurama" and "One Piece."
Sagal is one of several highly recognizable guest stars to grace Port Wenn in "Best Medicine" Season 2. In addition to Martin Clunes return as Dr. Robert Best, father to Dr. Martin Best (Josh Charles), Jack Cutmore-Scott ("Frasier") recently debuted as Parker, the professional monitor tasked with making sure Martin is complying with the state medical board's ruling on his case. And earlier this season, Andrea Martin ("Evil") debuted as Judith, one of Aunt Sarah's feisty friends.
