Chenoweth took the stage to big cheers from fans in the audience; she noted that she hadn’t even met some of the cast yet.

Later, after declaring herself a proud Christian, the actress joked that “Easter is very pissed that Jesus took her holiday.”

The casting is a reunion of sorts: Chenoweth starred in Fuller’s Pushing Daisies. In the novel on which American Gods is based, Easter is described as a hippie-ish free spirit who assists protagonist Shadow Moon when all appears to be lost.

Based on the 2001 Neil Gaiman novel, Starz’ upcoming series centers around a brewing war between the old and new gods; the old crew feels upstaged by the newbies, who reflect modern society’s obsession with money, drugs, celebrities, etc.The 100‘s Ricky Whittle stars as Shadow Moon, an ex-con who becomes the bodyguard of Mr. Wednesday (Deadwood‘s Ian McShane), an old god who seeks to build an army to take down the new regime.

Additional stars include Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) as Media, Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom), Orlando Jones (Sleepy Hollow), Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is the New Black) as Mad Sweeney and Cloris Leachman (Raising Hope) as Zorya Vechernyaya.
