“Fans all over the world are screaming at the thought of this happening.”
That’s how X-Files star Mitch Pileggi describes the subject of this behind-the-scenes video from the Fox drama’s 10th season. The carnage in question? The destruction of Mulder’s “I Want to Believe” poster — by the FBI agent’s own foot, no less, during an angry moment in the season premiere.
“It’s amazing to me that the poster has become so iconic,” series creator Chris Carter says in the exclusive clip, which is part some bonus footage included in The X-Files‘ Season 10 Blu-ray/DVD, available on June 14. “It’s really the heart of the show, because it doesn’t say ‘I Believe.’ It says, ‘I Want to Believe.’ It’s the struggle to find the truth without clear answers along the way.”
The video below shows the series’ prop department trying multiple ways to get the perfect poster rip, as well as star David Duchovny riffing on the beloved — and strangely more rugged than it looks — prop. (Try not to get too hurt by his take on it, ‘Philes.)
