Cruel Intentions has found quite the Diva (alum) to fill Reese Witherspoon’s shoes: Drop Dead Diva‘s Kate Levering has been tapped to play Annette Hargrove in NBC’s pilot based on the 1999 movie, our sister site Deadline reports.
Picking up over 15 years after the end of the movie, the potential series follows the cunning Kathryn Merteuil — played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, reprising her film role — as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey (American Crime‘s Taylor John Smith), the son of the late Sebastian Valmont and Annette. Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.
Per the pilot’s official synopsis, Annette’s reappearance in Kathryn’s life throws the socialite for a pretty huge loop, though the master manipulator doesn’t let on.
Levering played Kim Kaswell for six seasons on Diva. Her TV credits also include Cashmere Mafia, Kevin Hill, NCIS: Los Angeles and White Collar.
