“We don’t go up there. They ain’t supposed to come down.”
That’s the guiding principle of WGN’s upcoming drama Outsiders, a gritty look at the Farrell Clan’s centuries-long struggle to defend its home — and way of life — atop Shay Mountain from those in the Kentucky town below.
The action series stars David Morse (Treme) as Big Foster, a powerful man who’s next in line to lead his family.
The ensemble cast also includes Joe Anderson (The Divide) as Asa, who’s looking to rejoin the family after some time in the outside world; Gillian Alexy (The Americans) as G’Winveer, Asa’s confidante; Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy) as Lil Foster, Big Foster’s strapping son; Kyle Gallner (Veronica Mars) as Hasil, a quiet guy who isn’t much like the rest of the clan; and Christina Jackson (Boardwalk Empire) as Sally-Ann, who lives in a nearby mining town and is intrigued by the Farrells — especially Hasil.
In addition, Thomas M. Right (The Bridge) plays Sheriff Wade Houghton, who has history with the family (and some issues of his own).
The series is written and created by playwright Peter Mattei, who will executive-produce alongside Peter Tolani (Rescue Me), Paul Giamatti (John Adams) and others. It will premiere in early 2016.
