Veep's Tony Hale and Anna Chlumsky Tease Season 5 ('It's Gonna Get Ugly'), Weigh in on 'Labor Day' Mystery

As far as presidential campaign slogans go, it would be hard for Veeps Selina Meyer to do worse than what star Tony Hale offers up in advance of the HBO comedy’s fifth season:

“It’s gonna get ugly,” Hale told TVLine’s Michael Ausiello on the Emmy red carpet Sunday. “It’s gonna get even uglier than it has been.”

Though he couldn’t give up many details about President Meyers’ future — production on the series’ new season doesn’t officially start until October, after all — Hale let us know his thoughts on the referenced-but-never-explained Labor Day incident between his character, Gary, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ commander-in-chief.

“Something dark happened on Labor Day, something really dark,” Hale said — but unlike Ausiello, he’s fine not ever finding out what went down!

Meanwhile, Hale’s co-star Anna Chlumsky also stopped by the TVLine mic to tease that Amy will be around in upcoming episodes (though not necessarily working for her old boss) and to reassure viewers that the series’ behind-the-scenes changes won’t be noticeable in the “super consistent” new season.
