Put on your sunglasses: Sundance’s Top of the Lake is delivering some major star wattage in its second installment.
The new trailer for Season 2 of the Australian crime drama — titled Top of the Lake: China Girl and premiering this September on Sundance, with episodes streaming a day later on Hulu — shows police detective Robin Griffin (Elisabeth Moss) returning to the force after the trauma of last season. She’s put to work right away, though, when the dead body of an Asian girl washes up on the beach, packed into a suitcase. She enlists the help of a fellow cop played by Game of Thrones‘ Gwendoline Christie (hi, Brienne!), and the trail of clues leads them to a sleazy underground brothel.
But Robin’s also getting to know the daughter she gave up for adoption years ago, who’s now a teen named Mary, played by Alice Englert (Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell). Mary was adopted by a gray-haired Nicole Kidman, who thanks Robin profusely: “Your baby has been loved by me very much.” But she’s worried about Mary’s creepy new German boyfriend, who says charming things like, “The destiny of man is to enslave women.” And the two story strands start to intertwine when Robin realizes she spotted that creepy boyfriend at the brothel…

I’m in. That’s …. yeah, I’ll watch. Wow.
What a freakin’ year Nicole Kidman is having in TV and film. Entertainer of the Year?
Happy the trailer for the new season is out finally! The trailer for season 2 looks good and intense. Elisabeth and Nicole are having a great year this year with each of them being on two great shows. Can’t wait to watch the new season this fall!
I’m so excited for this season, I randomly started watching the first season and absolutely loved it.

Is it possible for an actress to be submitted for Best Actress in a Limited Series and Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series? Cause I have the impression Nicole Kidman will be snagging both this year…
Yes.
But I forget that Big Little Lies will be eligible at this year’s Emmys (September) while Top of the Lake will be eligible the following year.
It is possible. Martin Freeman for example was nominated lead for Fargo and supporting for Sherlock (the latter of which he won) in the same year. Moot point though since Top of the Lake will be eligible for next year’s Emmys.
Will Feud be in the same Emmy category as BLL? If so, I will only be happy with a three or four way tie for Best Actress (Saradon, Lange, Kidman, Witherspoon).
