Star Wars is getting its first-ever live-action TV series — and its debut isn’t too far, far away, either.
The Mandalorian is set to hit the Disney+ streaming service on its launch date on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and we got our first glimpse at it today with a trailer that premiered at Disney’s D23 Expo. In the trailer, we pan past an ominous line of Stormtrooper heads on spikes before seeing quick shots of cast members Carl Weathers, Gina Carano and Giancarlo Esposito along with various aliens and creatures — and a mysterious warrior suiting up for a fight. We get space battles, droids firing off blasters and that same warrior beating up a room full of assailants as a voice asks, “Bounty hunting is a complicated profession… don’t you agree?” Plus: Somebody’s frozen in carbonite!
Game of Thrones and Narcos veteran Pedro Pascal stars in the series, with a supporting cast that includes Nick Nolte, Esposito, Ming-Na Wen, Weathers, Carano and Werner Herzog. Jon Favreau serves as writer and executive producer on the freshman season, which will consist of eight episodes.
TVLine hears that Disney+ episodes will be released on a weekly basis, versus the all-at-once “binge” model.

In terms of Star Wars canon, The Mandalorian is set “after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order,” which would place it somewhere between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. In it, “we follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

Will this be released weekly or all at once?
Disney confirmed today that it will release new episodes of its original series weekly, rather than dropping an entire season at once
This looks good! Has Disney announced its plans for episode releases? Will it dump a full season all at once (like Amazon and Netflix), or weekly (like CBS All Access and Hulu)?
Weekly. No series on Disney+ is getting dropped at once.
Waay better. Weekly drops allow for people to catch up and be part of the conversation.
I love Netflix but the binge model doesn’t work for shows in my opinion. I love a good binge but end up finding that shows just drop off my radar as they get hidden a week after they’ve dropped.
One of my favorite things about shows like Lost was the 6 days of comments and theories between shows lol
The final and ultimate proof that CGI will never, ever, EVER look as good as old fashioned model photography. So glad they are going back to the traditional ways.
The Mandalorian is heavily CGI-created. Almost all sets and many characters are entirely CGI, using the technology developed for The Jungle Book and The Lion King.
I’m a huge fan of model photography.
I’ve seen a model display of the original SW vehicles and the Back to the Future DeLorean. Details are second tp none.
Unfortunately these days it’s all CGI. The look and feel is totally different. Proof is the Yoda model puppetry in the original vs CGI’d later.
Millennium Falcon, Tie Fighters, X WINGS, etc….details are amazing. The countless hours designing, assembly, intricate model photography is something that isn’t much appreciated with later generations demanding CGI, non organic feel.
Anyone’s that spent time with an intricate model as a hobby would understand.
..how about matte paintings?lol! Comic-con and various trade shows are great places to see this stuff.
I won’t even watch a series anymore unless I can binge the season. Example, I subscribe to Showtime once a year when both Ray Donovan and Billions have completed their seasons. I binge both, then cancel my subscription (through Amazon Prime) until next season.
Good trailer for the show.
It’s amazing when you think about it how far TV has come. I have a bunch of movies that I just haven’t gotten round to watching but every time I have free time I end up binging on TV programs. I’m wondering how the hell am I going to fit the slew of new Disney programs on my watch list. The Mandalorian looks excellent and if Disney+ is available to stream in the UK in November I’ll watch. Even if it isn’t available, I’ll watch by hook or by crook.
I like this direction SW is taking vs giving audiences regurgitative narratives. Younger versions of Leia, Luke, Solo, etc.
Create/develop more characters in a SW universe..just quit rehashing and stand on it’s own merits and not remaking a clone to George Lucas’s era.

The bounty hunter was always the character fans wanted to see since it’s inception in cameos. Much cooler than Obi-Wan; imho.
