The Voice Recap: Turn, Baby, Turn — Which Would-Be Winners Made Chairs Swivel On Night 4 Of The Blinds?
As Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, John Legend and Niall Horan's teams continued to fill up during Tuesday's episode of The Voice, another batch of singers threw down in hopes of following Gina Miles into the winner's circle. But did any of them have what it takes to emerge victorious in Season 24? Did any of them even have what it takes to put out a bop as catchy as Season 21 trio Girl Named Tom? (Listen below; I'm addicted.) First let's discuss the evening's competitors, then you can weigh in in the comments.
Laura Williams (Team Niall), "Fingers Crossed" — Grade: B+ | No point in putting the kids to bed because this 20-year-old babysitter was determined to wake up the whole house with her all-in audition. Yeah, there might have been a technical issue here and there, but who really cared? Not me, not when, as Gwen suggested, the four-chair turn sang Lauren Spencer Smith's hit as if she'd written it (or at least lived it). Passion to burn and a winning personality, too.
Ms. Monét (Team Reba), "Higher Love" — Grade: A | A longtime background singer for a who's who of famous folks, Gwen among them, the oldest artist of Season 24 teed up a forceful reminder that age is nothing but a number — and in her case, that number is a perfect 10. She belted Steve Winwood's '80s hit with the forcefulness and control of a born frontwoman. Hell, I hate that song, and she even made me like it. Not sure how she only merited two chair turns.

Jason Arcilla (Team Gwen), "Dreams" — Grade: B+ | A single dad who loves to reggae-fy songs, Jason performed Fleetwood Mac... un-reggae-fied. But no matter. He has one of those voices that sounds in my ears like nougat tastes in my mouth: smooth and light and and sweet, with a texture that's more interesting than I necessarily expect. Gwen was so enraptured that she used her Block keep Jason from joining Team Reba. Can't say as I blamed her.
Kaylee Shimizu (Team Legend), "Golden Slumbers" — Grade: A | Blessed with a range that's wider than her native Hawaii, this teenager transformed the Beatles tune into a power ballad fit for a Disney princess. The coaches, in turn, were ready to crown her Season 24's winner. All four chairs turned, with Reba, John, Gwen and Niall throwing around superlatives like "dazzling," "spiritual," "technically gifted" and "wild and free." And even those might have been understatements.

BIAS (Team Gwen), "God's Country" — Grade: C | Maybe this would've gone down better with biscuits. BIAS, who currently gigs at a fried-chicken joint, turned both Reba and Gwen around with a cover of the latter's husband's hit. The thing was, whereas Blake Shelton sings it like he's spitting gravel, BIAS performed it like he was spitting... I dunno, well-paved asphalt. Am I not giving him enough credit for putting his own spin on it? Are we allowed to just not like that spin?
Rachele Nguyen (Team Reba), "Bleeding Love" — Grade: C | Way to work it out, kid. At first, I had a feeling that this 17-year-old wasn't going to get a chair turn; her voice was so thin, you could almost see through it. But as she got to the chorus of Leona Lewis' hit, she turned up the volume high enough that she won over at least Reba. (Side note: How many people besides the self-proclaimed rodeo brat could liken a contestant to horse that they wanted to watch blossom and still make it charming?)

LVNDR (Team Niall), "Hotline Bling" — Grade: A+ | Sold. Note No. 1, and I was 100-percent captivated by this three-chair turn's jazzy take on Drake. Maybe even 110-percent. (I suck at math.) Her reinvention of the song was inventive extra. And those vocals! They were so creamy and dreamy — "slinky and ethereal," John called them — I was even willing to overlook how mad I know autocorrect is going to be all season when I try to spell lavender LVNDR.
Jacquie Roar (Team Gwen), "Here for the Party" — Grade: B | Not until this wedding DJ let loose an ear-popping growl — or roar, if you will — did the coaches decide to tell her, "I do... want you on my team." Jacquie's an interesting one, too. Her singing is a party that you'd definitely want to attend, but — and perhaps this is unfair? — it doesn't hold a candle to, say, Morgan Myles' in Season 22? Yeah, probably unfair. I'll just shut up and enjoy the four-chair turn.
