The Amazing Race: Which Team Fell Just Short Of Making The Finale?
If last week's non-elimination leg taught the racers anything, it's that Season 37 of The Amazing Race is set to keep them on their toes all the way to next week's big finish. And Strasbourg, France — a location that cut the Top 5 to the Top 4 — continued doling out the surprises, this time with the Race's rarely seen Head-to-Head competition.
So who won't be racing in next week's two-part finale? (Part 1 airs in the Race's regular time slot Wednesday, May 14; Part 2 follows Thursday, May 15 at 9/8c.) Read on for some Episode 10 highlights.
Early in the leg, the teams compete against each other in a jovial bout of water jousting. Using a lance, they must push their opponents into the water as their boats approach one another. The winners keep racing, but the losers must stick around and wait for another team to face off against. Han's surfing skills turn out to be quite handy. She's able to easily balance herself in the boat and take down Carson, putting the brother and sister pair in first place. The last team left at the jousting location earns themselves a 10-minute penalty and that team is unfortunately Brett and Mark.
Next up: How about that cheese challenge?! What's better than getting to chow down on some delicious European cheeses mid-race? However, the language barrier, and subtle flavors and textures of the food stumps almost everyone, causing Josiah and Alyssa to consider using their Express Pass. While Holden nearly loses his patience, and Brett and Mark catch up to the others, all five teams try their best to decipher brillat-savarin from bonde en gâtine. Yes, I can barely pronounce any of these names (hey, I took Italian in school!), but I am now 100% craving each and every one of these fine delicacies. The stinkier the better!
Anyway, what was I getting at before I drifted off into dairy daydreams? Oh, yeah. Josiah and Alyssa do use their Express Pass, but they wait far too long to do so — three teams are long gone before they decide to skip their way through the task. Best use of the pass? Ehh...
Now on to Jonathan. In the last couple episodes, dude seemed to chill out and dull down his sharper edges. He was no longer copping an attitude. No longer in need of a snack and nap time. And then France happened. Jonathan is quick to blame his wife for everything under the sun: Their performance at the cheese task, taking too long to write down directions, not driving fast enough. Then he chides her for... writing the directions down wrong!? He even says she's a "terrible partner" — the audacity! I do not envy Ana in this moment. I've said it once and I'll say it again: That woman is a SAINT for keeping her cool.
Teams must then race to the Pit Stop at Table D'Orientation in order to stamp their passports to the finale. Carson and Jack place in first, followed by Josiah and Alyssa, Jonathan and Ana, and Han and Holden. As for Brett and Mark? Their race sadly ends here.
