Love Is Blind Season 5 Brings The Messy Drama In Four-Episode Premiere — Is [Spoiler] The Actual Worst?

Houston, TX is the bustling city that gave us Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion and the messy drama at the center of Love Is Blind Season 5.

In the reality dating show's four-episode premiere on Friday, a new group of singles hit the pods to find love. And while some participants found their potential life partners, others were caught up in sheer chaos.

Let's start with Uche, a lawyer, who hit it off with Aaliyah, an ICU travel nurse. They had plenty in common, including a love of poetry, and their genuine connection would have made them a fan-favorite couple of the season. But Aaliyah revealed that she cheated on a partner two years ago, and all hell broke loose.

Aaliyah admitted that what she did to her ex-boyfriend was wrong, and she expressed regret for her actions while assuring Uche that she had changed. However, it was Uche's cold and judgmental reaction that left a sour aftertaste. He asked for the truth, she gave it, and then he immediately jumped down her throat — even after admitting he also cheated in a past relationship (though he only kissed another person).

It only got worse from there. Lydia consoled Aaliyah in the women's living quarters, offering up unsolicited advice about Uche as though she spoke from personal experience. Then Uche revealed to Aaliyah that he dated Lydia up until three months before they appeared on the show, and that he recognized her the first day they hit the pods. So he had been keeping this information from Aaliyah the whole time.

The guy preaching about honesty turned out to be a liar? Messy. Lydia wiping away Aaliyah's tears while neglecting to tell her friend she was sleeping with her man as little as three months ago? Hella messy.

Moving onto the Izzy situation, we're still trying to wrap our heads around the fact that so many of the women were obsessed with him. Was he really that charming? Anyway, his strongest connections were with Johnie, who'd been previously married, and Stacy, whose mean comments about her various dates gave us the ick. Izzy ultimately chose Stacy, which left Johnie in a bind since she broke things off with Chris — a really sweet guy — to be with him.

When Izzy dumped her, Johnie went right back to Chris, telling him she didn't give him a fair shot. We really felt for Chris because she made it clear he was the second choice while she was his top priority. And while he didn't immediately take her back, he also didn't turn her down.

In the men's living quarters, Izzy and Chris came to the realization that Johnie told them different things.  According to Izzy, Johnie told him that everyone she dated made her feel safe but she was never really in love with them, and she couldn't see herself like that with Chris. Chris noted that he was told the opposite, that she felt better with Izzy than him because he was the safe choice, and she was used to more excitement. Which is the truth, Johnie?!

After four episodes, three couples got engaged: JP and Taylor, Milton and Lydia, and Izzy and Stacy. Uche was planning to propose to Aaliyah but wound up talking to an empty pod. A producer then relayed that Aaliyah decided not to continue on the show. Given how she was treated, we weren't surprised that she disappeared without telling anyone.
