With the pre-Upfronts cancellation bloodbath well underway — the broadcast networks’ annual presentations of their upcoming seasons are slated for next week — NBC’s Lopez vs. Lopez is among more than a dozen bubble series still awaiting their fate.
Season to date, Lopez vs. Lopez is averaging 2.4 million total viewers and a 0.3 demo rating (with Live+7 playback). Out of the five sitcoms that NBC has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 2 in audience (trailing only Night Court) and ties for third in the demo (besting only Grand Crew).
With no word yet on the multi-camera comedy’s future, the rather dramatic Season 1 finale honed in on George’s alcoholism, and set up a potential sobriety storyline for Season 2. After he got so drunk that he fell and busted his head open, Mayan, Quintin and Rosie staged an intervention.
“Dad, having you in my life has been the greatest gift,” Mayan said. “I’m so grateful that you have done everything I’ve asked [since moving in] — but this is the most important thing I’m ever going to ask you to do. I can’t stand by and watch you drink yourself to death. I lost you once before, and I cannot lose you again.”
George insisted he was just a regular guy who enjoys a few beers, but his mood shifted as soon as he saw grandson Chance come teetering down the stairs, dressed as Grandpa for a school presentation, complete with a voluminous grey wig and a bottle of brewski.
“I used to drink to forget because I was all alone. I didn’t know what a family was or meant, and I never thought I would,” George said, alluding to a childhood where Child Protective Services was forced to intervene when his mother’s alcoholism got out of hand. “But now that I do, I want to remember every moment, so I don’t want this anymore” — and he handed Mayan his drink.
As the finale wound down, George returned home from his first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting with his sponsor Calvin — played by none other than Snoop Dogg. Naturally, with a sponsor like Snoop— err, Calvin, George could only promise he’d remain “California sober.” 🌿

I don’t normally wish for a show to be cancelled but have a feeling if this is renewed then American Auto will be canned. I really want AA renewed
I share your love of the show American Auto, but I think that there is more than enough room for both of these shows to succeed. I also think it is really important in this day and age to have a cast that is primarily Latino, given how much they have been underrepresented on mainstream television in the past.
Agreed 👍
Team George Lopez and his show being renewed for more seasons!
It’s a Latino show with a Latina show runner telling authentic experiences and stories of the Latin American community. This show is important. The show is important to Latino families. The show is important to other cultures that misunderstand Latino culture. Is it a comedy? Yes. Are somethings embellished a little bit? Oh absolutely, but there’s no denying how important George, Mayan and the show runner Debby Wolfe have been to the culture.
Excellent point…I couldn’t agree with you more. I think this show is important for the very reasons you outlined in your comment, especially since it is being aired on a major network.
Well said and I totally agree with you!
👏👏👏👏
I hope this show gets a second season because I actually find it funny and Latino relatable. I also hope American Auto gets renewed because I find that one funnier than Night Court by far and that got renewed.
I like George Lopez from his earlier comedy shows very sensitive smart and the people involved in the show are great too to have this show on National Television is to show George’s talents and his ability to make people laugh you would be making a big mistake if you took this show off the air I loved it
A big thumbs up!
I agree with you 💯
I used to watch George Lopez in his early showsI always respected him as a person as a human being and as a Mexican-American great comedy and great acting including his cast this is a good show to watch it has culture funny and also educational it reaches out to the people and it’s real has some respect for the man and let the show continue I will be praying for his show to go a long way including his life and his family
A big thumbs up!
Yes!
Very well said.
I really hope NBC gives it a 2nd season. If they feel like it didn’t do as good on a Tuesday night, then move it back to Friday night where it was doing fairly well for a Friday show. One of the very few Latin American shows right now that I enjoy because of its authenticity.
Absolutely!
👍👍
Not only is this a fantastic show, it is one of only very few in the history of television to feature a mostly Latino cast on a major network. I think you need to give the show time to gain a bigger fan base, which I’m sure will overtime. I think it is very important for a wide variety of viewers to have this exposure to Latino role models. On top of that, both George Lopez and the actor who plays his daughter are phenomenal in their roles. The rest of the cast is great too, and I especially like Chance and Mayan’s mother.
Definitely!
I agree 💯
The actor playing his daughter is his actual real life daughter Mayan Lopez.
Lopez vs Lopez is such a hilarious show…
Everything about this show is fabulous!
It deserves to be on for lots of seasons!
I’m a Black viewer and really like the show and find the show totally relatable. To me the show isn’t funny just because characters are Latino. It’s funny because it’s well scripted and acted. And main jist of the episodes really do relate to all nationalities. Hope the show doesn’t get canceled.
This was one of the funniest new shows on television this season. Hopefully it gets renewed.
Love the show especially Chance
I Absolutely Love This Show!!!!!!
Hoping for a season two renewal. I believe NBC believes in the show, hence the time change to Tuesdays, behind their current top sitcom ‘Night Court’. Also, it did have a full season run and hopefully the same will occur for season two, if it should be renewed.
Lopez vs Lopez hit the mark in a quite a few areas. Appealing to the Latin community is one, but to also display a realistic view of a middle class family, which is rare on television, even in today’s TV.
I believe the show will be renewed and looking forward to many more laughs and ventures with the Lopez family!
Don’t cancel this show because anyone needs a job
Lopez vs Lopez is funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. I love it
Best new comedy on tv, next to Abbott Elementary. It’s great to see smart, Black & Brown comedies on television.
this is a sitcom that legit makes me laugh. really hope that a second season is coming
This show is so funny and I love that it reprrsents a thriving latino family with everyday problems. It is extremely important to kerp shows like this on.
I was surprised to see that George Lopez had a new show out called Lopez vs Lopez after watching all the George Lopez show, I really like watching all his shows and want to see more seasons for Lopez vs Lopez and hope it gets renewed
