America's Got Talent: Jessica Sanchez Wins Season 20 In Live Finale
America's Got Talent just crossed another major milestone, crowning its 20th winner during Wednesday's two-hour season finale — but which lucky act just got $1 million added to their bank account?
Host Terry Crews revealed those results, painfully as always, towards the end of the night, following special performances from big names like Ciara and Leona Lewis, along with several former AGT contestants, including golden-voiced janitor Richard Goodall and two-time competitor Sainted.
Heading into the finale, mom-to-be Jessica Sanchez was the favorite to win Season 20, with 48% of TVLine readers predicting that she would be the one left standing under that sweet golden confetti. And you can't say she wouldn't deserve it; not only has she consistently crushed her performances all season, but this isn't exactly her first time at the reality TV rodeo. For the love of Regis Philbin, she was a semifinalist on the first season of AGT nearly two full decades ago, never mind that she also placed second behind Phillip Phillips on American Idol back in 2012. And remember when she was on Glee?! Like we said, she's earned it.
As for the rest of our readers' predictions, 20% foresaw the grand prize going to freestyler Chris Turner, while 14% threw their support behind Jourdan Blue's velvety voice and even velvetier hair. (Is that a word? "Velvetier?" Honestly, it's kind of a moot point, as no English word could accurately describe that magnificent mane.)
But hey, we love an upset, and any one of the remaining finalists stood a fair shot at winning Season 20. Those finalists included: the singing students of the Leo High School Choir, electronic dance group Light Wire, rapper/singer/all-around delight Mama Duke, innovative musician Micah Palace, danger duo Sirca Marea, country rocker Steve Ray Ladson and Filipino dance crew Team Recycled.
OK, time for the results. Here's how things shook out for the final 10 acts of America's Got Talent Season 20:
BOTTOM FIVE | Though not necessarily revealed in any specific order, the first five finalists eliminated were Mama Duke, Micah Palace, Sirca Marea, Steve Ray Ladson and Team Recycled.
FIFTH PLACE | Light Wire
FOURTH PLACE | Leo High School Choir
THIRD PLACE | Jourdan Blue
SECOND PLACE | Chris Turner
And just like that, we have a new America's Got Talent winner: Jessica Sanchez! How do you feel about the way things shook out in Wednesday's finale? Drop a comment with your thoughts on the results, as well as Season 20 overall, below.
