In the latest TV show ratings, Part 2 of The Rookie’s planted spinoff pilot drew a hair over 4 million total viewers along with a 0.5 demo rating, hitting and tying season highs. TVLine readers gave Part 2 an average grade of “B-,” with 38 percent “definitely” watching the spinoff if it happens (and 35 percent decidedly “not interested,” as of noon ET).
Teeing up The Rookie, American Idol (5.8 mi/0.8, read recap) was steady week-to-week and led Sunday in the demo.
Over on CBS, 60 Minutes drew the night’s largest crowd (7.1 mil). Back-to-back episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles — the second of which was one of the series’ best ever — both did 5.1 mil and a 0.4, down a tick from its last fresh outing. Closing out CBS’ night, S.W.A.T. (3.8 mil/0.4) was down a tick.
Elsewhere:
THE CW | Riverdale slipped to its second smallest audience ever (200K) and also dipped to a 0.0 rating.
NBC | Leading out of a Fantastic Beasts movie, Weakest Link (1.6 mil/0.2) was down.
FOX | Duncanville (570K/0.2) opened Season 3 with an audience low but was steady in the demo. It was followed by The Simpsons (970K/0.3), The Great North (730K/0.2), Bob’s Burgers (1 mil/0.3) and Family Guy (1 mil/0.4).

The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, plus out-of-home viewing. These numbers (Nielsen fast nationals, unless denoted as finals) instead aim to simply illustrate trends or superlatives. Steve Harvey is not a judge or lawyer and merely offers an alternative forum of dispute resolution.
Looks like the negative haters who camp out in the comments to bad mouth Niecy lost!
Its not negative hating if you don’t want to watch something.
Besides, I suspect ABC will be more interested in the numbers.
It is when you click on an article about someone you claim to dislike and scroll all the way down, proves to type up a nasty comment and hit submit, P. You seem like that type.
It is if you come out to spread negativity and bemoan someone’s success which is a lot of what I saw in the other comments. It’s okay though. Niecy is laughing all the way to the bank.
If you don’t want to watch something and didn’t, why waste timing commenting on it, then? That dosen’t make any sense at all. Nobody’s making anybody watch anything. I’ve liked The Rookie since day one—I also like Niecy Nash, so I will be watching the spinoff.
I don’t have a problem with the actress but I couldn’t stand her character and the writing was awful. In order to try and make the character work, it seemed like they had to make everyone else look bad. I will not be watching the spinoff. The actress is good but the character and writing aren’t. And you can only do so much with a bad character and bad writing.
👍
Not really a fan of hers, but she won me over on this one. Will definitely check out the spinoff if it gets picked up.
Of course ! NCIS LA was great last night
E. C. O. wrote a very good story !!!
Hmmm… I need to go back and watch the NCIS LA, as I missed it last night.
The second episode written by ECO and directed by Danielle Ruah was FIRE.
Wow, Simpsons now under 1M in viewers; checked archives and saw it first fell to six figures three weeks ago.
I love the Rookie but the two shows with Simone were way over being anything I could believe. She is too loud and unbelievable. I tried watch first episode too much ,then the second only took a few minutes delete. Please , please don’t make me lose another show.
Isn’t that sort of the point of the character what with her being a rookie? She wouldnt have the air of professionalism and experience because she hasn’t lived it yet with the FBI.
But she is older, so the age should come with more maturity and wisdom than the character showed.
If it’s supposed to mirror the premise of The Rookie, they didn’t exactly nail that given how the earlier seasons of that show was done.
And not wanting to be that kind of guy, but her wardrobe was a bizarre stylistic choice. The display of her ample bosom didn’t exactly scream professionalism either…
Nolan was naive and prone to poor judgments in his early days as a rookie too. I seem to recall quite a few occasions where he got reprimanded by his superiors for basic errors and his judgment calls on the job. I think he grew as a person through shared experiences with those around him.
👍👏👏
I’m watching.
Some people find FAULT…
Like there’s a REWARD for it….
I never would have guessed several years ago that Riverdale would end up having a smaller linear audience than Dynasty. This used to be a flagship series of the network and now its faded away into nothing.
Averaging 909 viewers per CW affiliate.
Good! Niecy paid her dues and looks like fans tuned in! Those not a fan and who don’t want to watch her show then skip it. I’m happy for her for landing a starring role on a major network! Go Niecy!!!!!
This episode “jumped the shark”. If Niecy Nash became a regular on The Rookie, I’d never watch it again. This was sophomoric writing and painful to watch and stretched credulity to the limit. These are 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back.
Agree. Although in my case it was just 1 hour I’ll never get back – I skipped part 2.
The Rookie is such a GREAT show. 🤩
Great? Adequate at best
Agreed.
In the real world- if your boss says you have to stay on the computer & work & you ask to go to the bathroom & end up defying orders- would you have a job? Don’t think so! How about sharing what you found instead of asking non federal personnel sensitive info. This character is not based on the real world.
I loved seeing Otis from Chicago Fire.
As I said in a different thread, this behavior has become all too common in all shows. A character defies explicit orders and goes off the rails. Often, not always, the behavior works out. But instead of being fired, suspended, etc. the heroic character gets a verbal reprimand and promises never to do it again.
It has become entirely predictable
OMG that was Otis ty sooooo much I NEVER would have put that together
Very good show. The drop off from AI dies not help. the Casting was solid.
Niecy is just too much personality for me to watch as a lead.
Looking forward to the new show. I really loved the character. It might not be a show for the super uptight intellectuals out there, but I think it will be a show with action and comedy. I enjoy having shows like that to just relax and watch without having to take them too seriously. I love her sassy personality, and I can’t wait for the show to air!
Far, far too much attitude for a rookie/probationary agent.
I’m not interested in watching super female cop.
She should be a staple on The Rookie. Forget about having a spin off. She was awesome on the series itself.
