RNC Night 4 Watched By 25 Million Viewers, Up 6% From Trump's 2020 Speech
North of 25 million total viewers watched the fourth and final night of the 2024 Republican National Convention on Thursday, according to Nielsen.
That's a gain of 6% from the closing night of the 2020 RNC, but down 21% from the night in 2016 when Donald Trump for the very first time accepted the party's nomination to run for the office of President of the United States.
Night 4 of the RNC was broadcast live from approximately 10 pm to 12:15 am ET and carried on 14 networks monitored by Nielsen, with the audience peaking at 28.4 million viewers during former President Trump's speech in the 10:45-11 pm window.
Fox News dominated Thursday's numbers by claiming nearly 9 million viewers (from 10 pm to 12:30 am); NBC placed a distant second with 3.6 million total viewers.
About 72% of Thursday night's RNC audience was age 55+, while just 6% landed in the 18-34 demo.
Night 1 of the 2024 Republican National Convention was watched by 18.1 million total viewers (across ABC, CBS, NBC, Scripps News, Telemundo, CNN, FOX Business, FOX News Channel, MSNBC, Newsmax, NewsNation, PBS). Night 2 slipped to shy of 15 million, but Night 3 rebounded with nearly 18 million viewers.
Night 1 of the 2020 Democratic National Convention, which nominated onetime VP Joe Biden to go up against an incumbent Trump, drew just shy of 20 million viewers; this year's DNC kicks off on August 19.
Earlier this election season, the first presidential debate between Biden and Trump amassed 51.3 million viewers on June 27, with 67% being age 55 and older; George Stephanopoulos' ABC News one-on-one with Biden drew 8.5 million viewers on July 5; and 24.2 million people watched President Biden's solo news conference on July 11.
