Wynonna Judd Explains Odd Performance With Jelly Roll At CMA Awards: 'I Was So Freaking Nervous'
Wynonna Judd has cited a last-minute wave of nerves for her noticeably unusual performance with Jelly Roll at Wednesday's CMA Awards.
During the ABC broadcast, Judd joined rapper/singer Jelly Roll for a duet on his single "Need a Favor." But after walking out on stage, Judd went directly to Jelly Roll and grabbed his arm tightly for support, remaining in that stance for the rest of the song with her eyes downcast.
"They say don't read the comments. I've read the comments!" Judd began in a TikTok video posted late Wednesday. "I'm just gonna come clean with y'all. I was so freaking nervous. I got out there, I looked at Jelly Roll, I wanted it to be so good for him. I could cry right now, but I'm not going to, because I'm such a fan of his and he asked me to sing, and I said absolutely. I got out there and I was so nervous that I just held on for dear life. And that's the bottom line.
"And on a lighter note," she continued, "right before I went out on stage to sing the opening of the CMAs, I heard a joke. It went something like this: Number one, don't fall. Number two, don't s—t yourself. And number three, God forbid if you should fall, don't s—t yourself. Thank you, [bassist] Glenn Worf!"
Judd also let fans know that she'll continue her live performances as scheduled; her Back to Wy tour resumes tonight in San Antonio, Texas.
"I'll be on stage tomorrow night with the people I love the most, and with you, the fans I love the most," she said. "And all is well."
