The Voice Season 29 Brings Back Three Veteran Coaches — And Ushers In A Remixed Format

Season 29 of NBC's long-running sing-off The Voice will be a "something old, something new" affair.

The old? John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine will be reclaiming their red swivel chairs for the "eventized" cycle, which will begin airing in the spring of 2026. (Clarkson will tape The Voice and Season 7 of The Kelly Clarkson Show concurrently.)

And the new? Season 29, subtitled Battle of Champions owing to the fact that all three coaches have won previous go-rounds with their contestants, will roll out a tweaked format. In the Blinds, Legend, Clarkson and Levine will vie with one another in a Triple Turn Competition, the victor of which will earn a Battles-round Super Steal that nullifies any rival's attempt to steal a sought-after singer.

Then in the Knockouts, the trio of coaches will bring back two artists apiece from their past teams to go head-to-head in an In-Season All-Star Competition. The coach who winds up with the most wins in these face-offs — which will be decided by former coach CeeLo Green — is then guaranteed a second finalist in the Top 4.

The semi-finals will be made up of the Top 9 contestants; the finale, the Top 4. During these rounds, a new voting block of superfans and Voice artists from bygone seasons will be on hand in the studio to play favorites in real time.
