The Rookie meets Scream VI when the ABC procedural serves up its Season 5 finale this Tuesday night — and TVLine has an exclusive first look at the chilling ambush that sets the edge-of-your-seat hour in motion.
In the season-ender — rightly titled “Under Siege” and airing Tuesday at 8/7c — the Mid-Wilshire team suffers a series of close calls “after one of their own is shot,” and soon realizes their division may be a target for a group of masked assailants.
Who, though, is the aforementioned “one of their own?,” you may ask/fret/worry. Well, if you have not seen the spoilery promo, press play above on our sneak peek from the episode’s cold open, which finds Officers Juarez and Thorsen (played by Lisseth Chavez and Tru Valentino) taking a perhaps-deadly detour whilst on the way home from a very late night of Dungeoning & Dragoning.
Without revealing much more, having seen the finale, I must warn you that it’s pretty white-knuckle in the way that it puts the entire team (and then some) in jeopardy, as said masked men stalk Nolan, Nyla et al — all as Angela is waiting to have her and Wes’ second baby! Oh, and #Chenford fans will get a scene they maybe didn’t know they wanted, but that they will greatly enjoy. And the hour ends with a bit of a double cliffhanger, including a hint of a brand-new Season 6 threat to come….

I realize TV programs always amp up the violence for dramatic purposes, but (even compared to other police shows), this particular group of officers sure gets shot at a lot.
True.. but nobody got shot at more than 5-0…in Hawaii. 😅🏄♂️
I’d say the difference is that programs like “Hawaii 5-0” were basically action shows. “The Rookie” has a lot of humor and over-the-top situations, but seems to be going for a somewhat realistic portrayal of how an actual police precinct works.
What I really would like to see is a continuation 7th season of the old Emergency series, which almost looks like a documentary in comparison to modern firefighting dramas, and maybe even cameos by Randolph Mantooth and Kevin Tighe
Double cliffhanger – so let me go with Bailey/Nolan in peril (leaving the door open for either or both to leave) and the return for the nine gazzilionth time of Elijah (with Glen Guglia in tow!).
They have absolutely beaten that storyline to death and it isn’t helped by Shawn Ashmore seeming bored every time he’s on screen. The guy is talented, give him more variety!
Still think the show could 100% continue without Fillion as his story really wrapped up 2 seasons ago, though him and Bailey are a hoot.
OR will the double cliffhanger be yet another “crossover” with Feds to continue trying to make that show work when it is absolutely appalling and miscast?
Been really enjoying the character beats on The Rookie, happily see more of that and the downtime interactions between folk, plus having Lopez and Harper as Cagney & Lacey but cooler is so much fun!
I LOVE The Rookie! I’ve been a fan since the very first episode. It was on the bubble for renewal a few seasons ago and I’m SO glad it didn’t get cancelled. Please, no more “jump the shark” style Dim and Juicy ploy lines, though. That was hella cringe…
*plot lines* Damn autocorrect…🤦♀️
Really enjoy The Rookie, although some of the plot lines are ridiculous… totally agree about the Dim and Juicy ones and the couple where they’ve had the characters talking documentary style. Those were awful. Lastly, I’m also sick of the crossovers with Feds. That show is beyond redemption in any way , manner, shape or form.
The promos for the season finale look awesome, but so did the promos for the last two lacklustre episodes.
If this is Nathan Fillion’s last season on the Rookie, I say good for him. It’s best to know when to cut your loses.
Season 5 has been dreadful and no amount of hyping an overrated ship (Chenford) will change it.
Like The Resident and Billions, this show has reached its creative end– it’s a shadow of its former self. I don’t see it going past 7 seasons.
I’m not watching the season ender of “The Rookie.” With cliffhangers, I just wait it out for the new season to begin and then watch the previous season cliffhanger and roll right into the new season. I like the Netflix style of releasing an entire season all at once and letting the viewers decide how to watch it (Binge or a few eps at a time.) And, I hope there are no major cast changes on ‘The Rookie.” I do however, hope that Feds just goes away. They could even bring Nathan over to star on Feds and it would still suck. That’s how bad it is.
