Syfy plans to stay aboard The Ark, handing a Season 2 renewal to the outer space drama, TVLine has learned.
The pickup comes just hours ahead of The Ark‘s penultimate Season 1 episode, airing tonight at 10/9c. The freshman finale follows on Wednesday, April 19.
“We couldn’t be more excited to get back into space with the crew of the Ark,” co-showrunners Dean Devlin and Jonathan Glassner said in a statement. “Syfy continues to be an amazing partner and home for this series.”
Added Lisa Katz, NBCUniversal’s president of scripted programming: “The success of The Ark is just another example of delivering on a promise to provide a wide spectrum of quality shows across our linear, cable and streaming portfolios. Heading into space with Dean and Jonathan has truly been a trip worth taking and we’re tremendously excited about how this otherworldly adventure will continue in Season 2.”
Created by Devlin (Stargate), The Ark is set 100 years in the future, when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. When a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event — with more than a year left to go before reaching its target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership — the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive. Christie Burke, Richard Fleeshman, Reece Ritchie, Stacey Read and Ryan Adams star.
The Ark‘s good news has been added to our Cable Renewal Scorecard. Glad to hear the journey isn’t over?
I’m so happy at this renewal. Super-surprised, but super-happy. I’ve missed hard-sci-fi on TV and couldn’t believe it when the series first aired, and I’ve been enjoying it – but thinking I was alone there. Happy to know I’m not, and I hope Syfy produces more hard-sci-fi going forward…
Not a bad show at all. Honestly I like it better than the last couple seasons of Star Trek Discovery.
Yes! The best show on TV.

Imdb 4,7! Jesus.
Because IMDb is considered God’s word?
Indeed it’s hard to know these days what is actually poor quality and what has been review bombed because some weirdos thought it had too many women in space or something. Have to read the actual reviews.
Im happy this renewed, as thought be 75-25 against getting a second season
The acting thou can be bad, but the actors that play the captain and the influencer are quite good
the SFX is quite piss poor thought for a space show.
I pretty much agree with you on all points. At first I thought it was a tacky show but the plots seem interesting. And yes the SFX sort of makes me think I’m watching some series from decades ago, such as “Space: 1999.”
They need to up the budget for SFX for season two and maybe add a “bigger name ” to the cast to attract new eyeballs!
Bring in the stars from The Outpost. :)
Great news! I really like the show.
We tried watching this show because of the writers. But its appalling! The acting is shocking, the science is often horrifically wrong (we use everything but urea in the urine, come on?).
The premise is great but it just wasnt working for us. We gave it 3 eps then just couldnt watch any more it was so bad.
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!! I know this show has special effects issues and iffy acting sometimes but it’s FUN! It’s entertaining and thankfully renewed so I won’t be left hanging!
I’m pleasantly surprised. I tried to stop watching this show, because in the beginning, it was not that great. The acting was just terrible, but I kept going back to it every week and it got better. Now, it’s a must-see for me every week.
I love it too. It reminds me of that CW show The 100, and The Expanse.
I’m super surprised by this and really happy. This show had a rocky start but rewards for sticking with it. Season 2 will only get even better. Well done
My gods, why? I’m not quite hate-watching at this point, but it’s on that level – I’m watching just fascinated at the absolute trainwreck of… everything. “Oh yes, let’s do a slingshot maneuver around a handy binary star that’s conveniently somewhere between Earth and *literally the closest star to Earth*! But then slow down because we detected this substance that eats all materials! Oh, but it’s another Ark, and the only survivor is a junior engineer who specialized in this fancy new FTL drive, well good thing we stopped! Hey junior engineer who specializes in this fancy new FTL drive, why don’t you show our security guy where your weapons are rather than going with *our* engineer to pack up your fancy new FTL drive? And don’t worry, we don’t need your help installing it, despite being an engineer who, let me point it out again, *literally specializes in* this fancy new tech!”
.
…And that’s not even counting the terrible science in the early episodes I could at least pass off as “Rule of Cool” such as gravity everywhere and not just the rotating biomes, putting all the senior officers and everybody who knows what they’re doing in the same sleeper bay, assigning a super-genius polymath to latrine duty, etc.
horrible pilot and the 2nd episode wasn’t strong, but the show has really found it’s stride and is the best syfy show since dark matter. I hope more people that didn’t give it more time come back and give it a chance
Glad they renewed it. Yes, it’s not deep and thought provoking, but The Ark is consistently entertaining and story doesn’t lag. Count me in for season two.
This is a B grade Sci-Fi show, if you expect that going in its a very good fun show.
Lots of excitement-frisky characters -lots of fun- very happy for another season..its not wrong to be entertaining
