Jon Miyahara, Superstore's Silent Scene Stealer, Dead At 83

Superstore's Jon Miyahara, who recurred throughout all six seasons of the NBC workplace comedy as Cloud 9 employee Brett, has died at the age of 83. A cause of death has not been disclosed.

Miyahara's passing was confirmed by cast member Colton Dunn (Garrett), who eulogized the silent scene stealer in an Instagram post.

"John was a really awesome guy and as a performer could speak volumes with just a look," Dunn wrote. "He was such a memorable part of the Cloud 9 team. It was an honor to know him and work with him. I was lucky enough to meet some of his family and my thoughts are with them. Rest in Peace John."

Dunn's post prompted remembrances from fellow Superstore vets, including Kelly Stables (Kelly), who commented, "Oh man! He was always so sweet," and Irene White (Carol), who wrote, "What an incredible man."

Michael Bunin (Jeff) also chimed in with his condolences, writing: "I'm so sad to hear this news. Many fun days and many fun conversations. Very nice guy."

Miyahara appeared in 105 out of 113 total episodes of Superstore, including the 2015 series premiere and 2021 finale. At the end of Season 2, viewers were led to believe that Brett had been swept away by a tornado that took down the big box retailer — and at the start of Season 3, his fellow Cloud 9 employees held a memorial for him, which included a memorable rendition of Radiohead's "Creep" by resident sad sack Sandra.

Shortly thereafter, Brett surfaced at work, very much alive.

Following the end of Superstore, Miyahara resurfaced as Brett on American Auto, also created by Justin Spitzer, confirming that the two NBC comedies existed in a shared universe.
