Sherlock & Daughter Team Tease Their Plan For A Potential Season 2 Of The CW's Most-Watched Drama
If/when The CW decides to renew its most-watched drama of the 2024-25 TV season — the choice is elementary, is it not? — rest assured that the creatives behind Sherlock & Daughter are at the ready with ideas.
Sherlock & Daughter, which bowed April 16 and dropped its freshman finale June 11, finds Sherlock Holmes (played by Fargo Season 3's David Thewlis) out of his comfort zone and unable to investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends. Enter Amelia (The Originals' Blu Hunt), a young American who, after her mother's mysterious murder, learns that her father may be the legendary detective. Dougray Scott (Batwoman) co-stars as Holmes' nemesis, Moriarty.
Season 1 has been averaging 852,000 total weekly viewers (With Live+7 playback), making it the most-watched entertainment program on The CW this TV season — edging out Wild Cards' sophomore run, which averaged 798K. (Wild Cards has been renewed for two more seasons in Canada, but its Stateside fate is still TBD.)
Speaking at this year's Monte Carlo Television Festival with an eye on any potential Season 2, Sherlock & Daughter scribe Shelly Goldstein said that when it comes to ideas for the series, "They would just come popping out, and there were far too many for just eight episodes," Variety reports. "If the fates are good to us, there are so many wonderful stories to be told with these characters."
Series creator Brendan Foley, who exec-produces the series with James Duff, Karine Martin, Chris Philip, Peter Gerwe, Dominic Barlow and Ivan Dunleavy, in turn said that in Season 2, "I think we'd like to take it international.
"At the end of the 19th century, society is moving from criminals robbing banks to criminals owning banks. Crime is blissfully international," the scribe noted. "I'd like to see what's happening in the U.S., Europe, Australia at the same time. This great, glorious British Empire was still in its heyday, but it's a big world out there."
The CW as of Monday morning had no updates to share on Sherlock & Daughter's Season 2 fate.
