Psych fans, prepare to have your patience tested. The comedy’s second made-for-TV movie, which was originally going to premiere in 2019 on USA Network, is now being held until 2020, when it will debut on NBCUniversal’s just-titled Peacock streaming service, our sister site Deadline reports.
And speaking of titles, the second Psych movie will be called Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, a reference to Timothy Omundon’s character, Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter. As previously revealed, the movie sends Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) back to their old stomping grounds for… actually, just read the official synopsis below:
“Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter is ambushed on the job and left for dead. In a vintage Psych-style Hitchcockian nod, he begins to see impossible happenings around his recovery clinic. Shawn and Gus return to Lassie’s side in Santa Barbara and are forced to navigate the personal, the professional, and possibly the supernatural. Separated from their new lives in San Francisco, our heroes find themselves unwelcome in their old stomping grounds as they secretly untangle a twisted case without the benefit of the police, their loved ones, or the quality sourdough bakeries of the Bay Area. What they uncover will change the course of their relationships forever.”
Though not directly mentioned in the synopsis, Psych 2 will also welcome back original cast members Maggie Lawson (as Juliet), Kirsten Nelson (as Karen) and Corbin Bernsen (as Henry).

Title is adorable, the release plan, not-so-much! I’ve no interest in subscribing to a new service for a single movie…
Silvy – You took the words right out of my mouth!!!!!!!
Well, dang it. I know I have USA Network. I’m with a lot of others and not wanting to get a streaming service. So torn because I don’t want to miss this either. Sadness.
Agree! Love psych! Was looking forward to watching on USA. Why change it? Not paying to watch it.
Now I’m annoyed. I’m not paying for yet another streaming service just to watch this movie.
Most have at least a one-week free trial, so you can sign up, watch it, then cancel before paying. But it is disappointing it won’t be on USA.
I don’t have the USA network since I got rid of my cable. Last time I was able to get the movie on VUDU. You might find this movie there too.
You could just buy it outright on something like Amazon.
Last movie cost 2.99 on Amazon and vudu
If it premieres on the streaming service, does that mean that it will eventually show up on USA Network? I don’t know how many more streaming services I can subscribe to.
We are hearing it might eventually air on USA. –Mgmt.
Fingers crossed!!
Great title, not happy about release plan. Guess Ill have to wait for it to come to dvd.
I’m not happy about them releasing it on a streaming network either but I’d say it’s still probably cheaper to sign up for the service for a month or if they have a free trial than it would be to spend $20 on a dvd.
Streaming is mercurial and dependent on the quality of my internet connection. DVD will outlive me, so I trust that it will always be on my shelf. Of course, my 2000+ Blu-Ray collection makes me somewhat bias.
We have slow DSL, so you can imagine how bad our streaming is. AT&T doesn’t seem at all interested in upgrading the infrastructure, either. Out only other choice is Comcast, and the neighbors who have it never stop complaining about the service.
Suck It, NBC! I prefer to watch Shawn and Gus for free on USA Network. You KNOW that’s right.
C’mon, son!
What kind of cable do you have where USA is free? Technically this is cheaper.
Not if I’m already paying for USA Network with my cable subscription. I sure as heck am not going to subscribe to another streaming service to watch a bunch of reboots and reruns on a network I don’t even watch. (NBC)
I’m 100% with you!
My USA is free with DirecTV amd Roku, but where I live they only show Psych on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, which is NOT free! I’m not at all happy about it being on some streaming service!
Amazon prime hasn’t it
🍍🍍🍍🍍🍍🍍🍍🍍🍍
Time to send some pineapples to NBC and USA.
What a crock of pineapple poo! I have USA. I pay for USA. Now I have to pay for another service to see my show? I’m so frustrated that the networks keep pawing at my wallet. Show some respect for your viewers.
I am pissed. I am not getting that streaming service to watch one thing. This is stupid
So if you don’t have the streaming service does that mean you can’t watch it? I hate that all these networks are adding these streaming services that you have to buy.
YES! It actually feels REALLY greedy (make no mistake that they are still making a ton a money of currently when their stuff is streaming on the other services)…. I also feel for the shows that are on these stupid “I’m taking all my toys and going home” kind of subscription networks. There is only so much money in our pockets to subscribe to a million very specific channels that only broadcast very specific groups of shows. The great thing about Netflix, Amazon, Roku, Redbox, etc is the variety. NBC Universal (and CBS and Disney, etc., etc.) are just making things excessively complicated — it’s getting way too hard to keep up with what will be airing where. Literally so annoyed.
I frown upon the fact that this is now moved to the weirdly title Peacock streaming service. I am not gonna pay for a subscription service to watch one movie, even if that movie is a sequel Psych movie. I’ll wait for it to premiere on the USA network.
I pay for USA on cable. I should be able to watch it on cable, not pay for an additional service. I frown that the movie has been moved to the weirdly titled Peacock streaming service. The NBC logo is a peacock, that’s why.
What about the “Wood” man?
back to analyze the stiffs!
If you’re already paying for cable, you’ll have access to this service.
It’s an online screening service that’ll require a separate fee, which apparently hasn’t been established yet. I too am extremely frustrated by the number of networks that now want us to pay over and above our cable costs to watch their programming.
This one is different. Go back and read the early articles on it. “Access to NBCU’s ad-supported service, which launches next year, will be free for those viewers who already pay for cable, while those without a provider can pay separately for a subscription. An ad-free version of the streaming service will also be available at an additional cost.”
But isn’t that just for Comcast cable?
Yes, the best I can tell, so far only subscribers to Comcast cable will get it free, and that’s not my cable provider. Much as I love “Psych,” I’ll just wait until I get a chance to watch it free if my cable company doesn’t offer us access.
I have been a loyal fan of all things Psych. Now I have to subscribe to a streaming service to watch the next movie. Probably won’t.

It looks like it will eventually show on USA Network, but just a few months later. If you’re really a devoted Psych-O, I would recommend purchasing the movie through Amazon, iTunes, or Google Play to show your support for the show for their to be more movies!
I hope their decision to put it on the streaming service is that they believe it’ll perform better through this release method. It’s unfortunate we have to wait even longer, but I hope with the extra wait, it’ll make it do really well and earn a third movie! That’d be a nice concession having to wait the extra months :)
This is such TRASH!! Now I have to wait longer and pay for a stupid new service to watch this?!! Such a joke
It would have been really helpful to note in the article that Peacock will be free with ads (with an optional paid ad-free tier).
The title is literally the only thing I like about this news.
I know THAT’S right!!
Well so much for watching this! I was looking forward to see it but what the HELL…..all these streaming Sh*t!!!! 😡 By the I really love the title of the movie.
Not thrilled with the delay or that it is on another streaming service
but I would love it if this started a trend of getting USA/NBC shows getting movies. I would love other USA shows like Monk, White Collar, Royal Pains and Burn Notice and NBC shows like Quantum Leap and Chuck (come on it Waaay overdue) to get movies
I see all these different streaming services starting up… Not getting enough subscribers (because 7 to $12 a month x 20 plus your basic cable or streaming is huge dollars…) then several fail getting combined and having a choice of 3 to 5 left standing. Oy.
LOVE Psyche ad I wouldn’t care what they called it. Wish the series would come back; really miss it!!
I’m so tired of all of these extra $$ streaming “services” popping up like weeds. Where does it end?
