TVLine Items: Poltergeist TV Series, Judge Judy's Renewal And More

Amazon MGM Studios is looking to scare up a Poltergeist.

A series based on the classic 1982 horror movie is in early development at the studio, with Amblin Television's Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey set to executive-produce, our sister site Variety reports. The project does not yet a writer and no plot details are currently available, except that the potential show will be set within the world of the film.

The original Poltergeist — co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg, and starring Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams — centered around a family who discover their new home is haunted by ghosts, who kidnap their young daughter (played by Heather O'Rourke). With the help of a parapsychologist and a spiritual medium, they attempt to rescue their daughter. The movie spawned two sequels, a 2015 Sam Raimi-produced remake and the late 1990s TV series Poltergeist: The Legacy, which ran on Showtime for its first three seasons and then aired its fourth and final season on SciFi Channel.
