This has Darth Vader’s fingerprints all over it.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy shared some disappointing news regarding the future of Obi-Wan Kenobi at Saturday’s Star Wars Celebration in London.
Season 2 of the Disney+ series starring Ewan McGregor “is not an active development,” Kennedy told our sister site Variety, before adding, “But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another.
“Everybody’s all hands on deck with what we’re doing right now, as you can see by what we showed everybody [at the Celebration],” Kennedy continued. “We’ll turn our attention to that again maybe down the road.”
Set 10 years after the events of 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Season 1 of Obi-Wan — which rolled out last summer — reunited McGregor with Hayden Christensen, who reprised his role as Vader.
I thought the first season really only served to screw up Star Wars Cannon. Obi Wan and Liea were secret bffs all along, Obi Wan use to visit Luke when he was a boy. My Favorite being Obi fought vader again and took another pass on Killing him. How many lives were lost across the galaxy because Obi Wan wouldnt kill Vader when he had the chance…all of these issues are a result of poor writing, as there. was a way around off of this. A season 2 could only cause more damage. i could totally see obi wan on the death star with a chance to blow it up and say not today.
I couldn’t disagree more. ObiWan was better than Phantom and clone wars. They finally got it right!!!!!!!!!!! Please season 2????
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A second season? I don’t know about that.
I agree that him not killing Vader when he could have is a plot hole….but the show was DAM GOOD overall. Even Hayden C. finally got it right!!
It would have been a bigger plot hole if he did kill him

How does it destroy any cannon? Leia knew enough about him to know that Obi-Wan was her only hope with the Death Star plans so a combination of on and off interactions with him makes sense there and Luke knew of ‘Ben’ so it’s not like the two were totally isolated from each other
Don’t look at it as cannon cause it’s not just look at it as a “what if”
Obi-Wan couldn’t kill Vader because of his own guilt. In his mind, it wasn’t just that Anakin fell to the dark side, but that he failed to save his friend. He had to redeem Vader to be able to forgive himself for his failure – once he’s dead, that hope of self forgiveness is forever out of reach.
Literally every single thing Obi-Wan does after Mustafar is motivated by his guilt over failing to save Anakin.
Obi Wan visiting Luke was already canon as they had shown him doing that in the Rebels cartoon.
I think for most of us, this news is more of a relief than disappointing. Ewan McGregor is wonderful as Obi-Wan, but the series was just not good.
I really enjoyed it. If they come up with a second season, I would definitely watch it.
I’m disappointed. I really enjoyed Obi-Wan Kenobi. I found I liked Obi-Wan’s character better in the series than in the movies. He seemed almost wooden in the movies. I would have liked a Season 2, but I’m ok with how it ended.
Good. It was a masterpiece miniseries. Leave it alone.
I’m torn. I thought it was an excellent addition to the ‘verse and I liked how it ended. I’m just greedy with wanting a second season.

No, No, No! A 2nd season needs to happen. When will there ever be a chance to have Obi, Darth, Leia and Luke together. And two of the original actors to boot? I loved little Leia’s-grown-up Leia’s attitude. That was spot on. Who cares if Obi had the chance to blow up Vader. If he did, then there would’nt have been Part I, II and III, or something like that. Its all about Obi’s caring for the twins. I loved it!!
The series wasn’t bad, but it should have been great. Sometimes star wars, marvel, dc etc excel with the fan service aspects of a project, but the rest leaves something to be desired. I was disappointed for sure.
I’d love a second season but, with Disney in Flux creatively and financially, I’m concerned with the quality we’d get. Is it better to have any season or a good one?
I didnt like the show at all
Me neither, I dropped it after 3 episodes. The writing was…not great.
Not exactly disappointed here. I thought the series had no story to tell, but worse it was so bland.
I thought it was fine. Mo real need for a second season. Boba Fett was terrible though.
This show shouldn’t exist in the first place. I love Obi-Wan in every version from original trilogy, prequels, animation, but this show almost ruined the character for me. Season 2 would make it even worse, so I’m glad it’s not happening
Bad idea! Another poor decision by Kathleen.
Could not read it. Commercials covering the story!
I have mixed feelings. Obi-wan is my overall favorite Star wars character, followed by Luke, so I wanted to see more of their interactions than we got in season one. I was hoping a second season might give us more of that. i haven’t gotten in to all the various Star wars shows Disney is doing now, but that one, i wanted more.
I really enjoyed the first season. It was one of my favorite Disney+ shows. Ewan McGregor is so likeable and little Leia is absolutely adorable. I hope there will be another season at some point. I don’t know why they made the show if they didn’t intend for there to be more seasons, especially if the actors want to do it. Seems like it did well enough in the ratings.
Ewan and Hayden are on a Kenobi panel at Celebration this weekend. They’re sure to be asked.
What a shocker. Kathleen Kennedy continues to single handedly destroy Star Wars one nail at a time. Of course nobody who has standards wants a second season. It was a disaster. Bahahaha again what a shocker.
I can see how the average viewer would think it was a good show with nothing of themselves invested in obi wan. But for a serious Star Wars fan it was a Terrible show, so cheap looking, awful storyline.
I think the average viewer wouldn’t realize just how much they got wrong in Star Wars lore. Like the sequel trilogy it didn’t seem to understand its own franchise, screwing up character arcs and creating huge plot holes. Trademark of the whole Kathleen Kennedy tenure.
Star Wars is only fun to hate-watch now. To see how a bunch of oafs who have no business being anywhere near Star Wars show how ridiculous their empty skulls are.
I struck Disney Wars from canon long ago. All of it. Because to not do that would be to accept that Lando had sex with a feminist droid that went on to be the Falcon’s computer.
Like Joker and EDI.
If Kennedy is anywhere near it we don’t want it full stop fire her or put a match to Star Wars.
I liked this show but I don’t think it needs a 2nd season. It had a decent ending.
It’s C-A-N-O-N. Please people MAKE AN EFFORT.
Obi-Wan was…meh. The final scene with Anakin were beautiful and riveting, but you had to wade through all those dull, silly episodes first. Disappointing. I had hope the the series would be more of Obi-Wan in the desert communing with Qui-Gon’s ghost, more philosophical, something to rehab the dignity of the Jedi after years of being undermined and made foolish by Lucas. But no, instead we get Obi-Wan doing hiding Leia under a trenchcoat in the worst disguise since Scooby Doo. I cringed.
