Disney Channel is resurrecting one of its most iconic female characters — just as soon as she checks her beeper and returns the call.
A live-action movie based on the animated series Kim Possible is in the works, TVLine has learned. Casting for all roles — including the title character, a high school student who juggles cheerleading and crimefighting — is currently underway.
Original series creators Mark McCorkle and Robert Schooley are penning the script, along with Josh Cagan (The DUFF). McCorkle, Schooley and Zanne Devine (I, Tonya) will executive-produce.
Kim Possible ran on Disney Channel for 87 episodes from 2002 to 2007, additionally spawning two made-for-TV movies — 2003’s Kim Possible: A Sitch in Time and 2005’s Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama.
Christy Carlson Romano (Even Stevens) voiced the title character, Will Friedle (Girl Meets World) voiced sidekick Ron Stoppable, Nancy Cartwright (The Simpsons) voiced naked mole rat Rufus, Tahj Mowry (Baby Daddy) voiced tech genius Wade Load, John DiMaggio (Adventure Time) voiced the villainous Dr. Drakken, and Nicole Sullivan (Disjointed) voiced Kim’s arch-rival Shego.
In other Disney Channel Original Movie news, the network will premiere its new music-and-dance movie ZOMBIES on Friday, Feb. 16 (8/7c). The film stars Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly (American Housewife).

“One of its most iconic female characters,” like most of its iconic characters aren’t female LOL
But anyway, I’m not sure how I feel about this. I would be all in on an animated movie. I’ll still watch, but I’m hesistant. 🤔
I can name plenty of iconic male characters. Challenge me.
I think he meant on the Disney Channel, which does tend to skew female with its lead characters.
You are aware of why they call it the Mouse House, right? Besides Mickey, there is Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Buzz, Woody, Lightning McQueen, Tow-Mater, Flynn Rider, Robin Hood, Hercules, Aladdin, Peter Pan and so many more iconic male characters. Since we are discussing Disney Channel, here are a few shows with male leads: Suite Life (both), Phil of the Future, Even Stevens, Famous Jett Jackson, and those don’t include some of the male co-starring shows. Since this film will be a Disney Channel Original Movie, there have been several with male leads: High Musical’s, Teen Beach movies, Horse Sense, Jumping Ship (3 male leads), Let it Shine, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire, Full-Court Miracle, Going to the Mat, Phantom of the Megaplex, Let it Shine, and these are just the ones I’ve seen and actually liked and again don’t include some of the great male co-stars in other films. The point being, that although they have many a Disney Princess, they have much, much more.
So what is this supposed to be? The animated show ended with them graduating. So is this just a live action remake of the show in movie form, a sequel, or a random adventure set in the middle of the show’s continuity?
A few years ago, Bella Thorne would be the sure fire Kim, but now who knows who they’ll cast.
Medeline Peitcsh (sp) aka the ginger from Riverdale. IDK about Ron, though he’s really secondary to the casting for Kim. How about CCR for Sheego?
Kim Possible was a great cartoon! My son loved it! It was well done, fun and silly but sent a great message about empowerment!
Willing to dye my hair red for this rôle as soon as needed and work out as hell to succeed 😂
I don’t know what age Kim is supposed to be now in this. But for some reason Karen Gillian sprung to mind as perfect for the main lead. And I’m not even that big of a fan of hers.
Disney won’t pay for her for a successful movie star for a TV movie.
Zendaya was the first name that I thought of
She just did K.C. Undercover. And I’m pretty sure she’s done with Disney.
Noooo animated only! Do they know how ugly naked mole rats are in real life???
I’d honestly prefer an animated movie with the original voice cast, but with the right casting, I suppose a live action adaption could work…
Oh, I think Debby Ryan would be PERFECT as Kim.
I can’t decide whether I’m more excited or terrified about this.
Always liked the show, good luck with this
Si is christy carlson romano to old to play her? Cause that would be kind of awesome! If not, i can do it!!
Yeah way too old unless they want to go the route of a thirty-something Kim dying her hair black and deciding to come out of retirement to live out her golden years. But if they wanted to do that, than they should just ask Robert Rodriquez to make another terrible Spy Kids film that they can buy the rights to
I just hope they cast Christy and Will as Kim’s parents. As for Kim Joey King I guess
Kim: ” Okay Wade what’s the sitich”
I just hope that they do a good job animating Rufus to look adorable and not an Uncanny Valley abomination.
Did they ever actually have an origin story for how and why she became a crime fighter? They always alluded to characters she helped in the past that did her favors in return. I believe we discovered her grandmother was a spy. I don’t remember them ever telling the actual story of her becoming one, but it’s been a while. If not, this is the story to tell.
Kim Possible: A Sitch in Time explained it and it was mentioned again in the third season involving team impossible. Btw she wasn’t just a crimefighter she did other things too
