Joe Biden Sets First National TV Address Since Withdrawing From Presidential Race
President Joe Biden is set to address the nation on Wednesday, marking his first televised speech since withdrawing himself from the 2024 presidential race.
"Tomorrow evening at 8 PM ET, I will address the nation from the Oval Office on what lies ahead, and how I will finish the job for the American people," Biden announced Tuesday on X.
President Biden is returning to the White House on Tuesday after spending several days recovering from COVID-19 at his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Del. He tested positive on July 17 while appearing at several events in Las Vegas.
Biden shocked the world on July 21 when he revealed that he will not be seeking reelection this November, instead endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. The announcement came several weeks after his disastrous debate against former President Donald Trump; Biden's poor performance led to widespread calls for him to withdraw.
"My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it's been the best decision I've made," Biden wrote after announcing his withdrawal. "Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it's time to come together and beat Trump. Let's do this."
