Candace Cameron Bure To Star In Great American Family's First Mystery Series — Get Release Date

Goodbye, Aurora Teagarden. Hello, Ainsley McGregor!

Fledgling Hallmark Channel competitor Great American Family has announced the launch of its own mystery movie franchise titled — wait for it — Great American Mysteries. The first whodunnit will be titled The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries: A Case for the Winemaker and led by former Hallmark star Candace Cameron Bure.

The film will arrive Thursday, July 25 at 8/7c on streaming service Great American Pure Flix. Its linear television premiere will follow Saturday, Oct. 5 at 8 pm, on Great American Family.

Based on author Candace Havens' book of the same name, The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries: A Case for the Winemaker follows "a former Chicago criminologist (Bure) who returns to her hometown of Sweet River, Texas," according to the official logline. "She has chosen to trade full-time crime work to open Bless Your Arts, a market for artisans to sell crafts and wares. But Ainsley cannot deny her first love is crime solving and accepts a position teaching a criminology class at the local community college. Her skills quickly become a major asset to the quaint town, when a murder occurs at a winery owned by her friend, who now stands accused of the crime." Aaron Ashmore (Ginny & Georgia) co-stars.

"There's nothing more exciting for me than being back in the cozy mystery genre," Bure said in a statement Tuesday. "Mysteries are so fun to watch and to try to solve. I hope our faithful fans and audiences fall in love with the townspeople of Sweet River, Texas and Ainsley McGregor's keen eye for solving mysteries. In this next-level mystery series, the family dynamics and developing relationships alone should keep you coming back for more!"

Bure previously fronted Hallmark's Aurora Teagarden Mysteries franchise, based on the Charlaine Harris book series of the same name. A total of 18 Aurora Teagarden movies were produced before Bure bailed on Hallmark for new pastures in April 2022.

Following her network exit, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries proceeded with a 19th Aurora Teagarden movie — a prequel subtitled Something New which starred Skyler Samuels (Scream Queens, The Gifted) as the titular sleuth.

The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries: A Case for the Winemaker does not yet have a premiere date. In the meantime, check out a pair of first-look photos below, then hit the comments and tell us if you'll be watching.
