BBC Reassures Call The Midwife Fans After Rumor Claims Series Will 'End For Good' In 2026
Call the Midwife fans have been suffering through a pregnant pause ever since a UK tabloid reported that the period drama would "end for good" after the upcoming 15th season, which has been filming since May.
The BBC has since come forward with towels, hot water, and slightly reassuring words.
"In case you've heard any reports to the contrary...," the UK outlet's press office shared recently. "The BBC would like to reassure fans that Call The Midwife will remain at the heart of the BBC for years to come."
It was the Daily Star in the UK which on June 25 claimed, "The show's 15th run in 2026 will be its last series on telly," to be followed only by a "movie spin-off on the big screen."
But as the BBC pretty much put it, don't throw the possibility of Season 16 out with the bath water!
"As previously announced, there are two Christmas specials" (set in Hong Kong and Poplar), "a new series (the aforementioned Season 15, spanning eight episodes), a film (set overseas in 1972) and a prequel series (set in Poplar circa World War II), before a sixteenth series in due course," said the press office. "Call the Midwife isn't going anywhere!"
Based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth, Call the Midwife's story follows the nurses, midwives and nuns from Nonnatus House, who visit the expectant mothers of Poplar and provide the poorest women with the best possible care.
Call the Midwife Season 15 is set to premiere in January 2026; the prequel series is on track for a 2026 launch; and the Call the Midwife motion picture will feature iconic characters from the existing TV show.
