Talk about much ado about I dos that didn’t.
CBS this month promoted Blue Bloods‘ season-ending wedding between NYPD-turned-life partners Jamie Reagan and Eddie Janko. Yet when it came time for the bride to walk down the aisle, she barely took a dozen steps before the season faded to black, quite unceremoniously.
Mind you, this wasn’t edited as some sort of dramatic wedding day cliffhanger a la Tina Lord, still damp from the Iguazu Falls, bursting into the back of the church carrying her and Cord’s miracle baby. No, the episode simply ended, on a shot of a grinning groom.
TVLine ran into Will Estes, who plays Jamie, at the People/EW Upfront Week party, and started off by asking the No. 1 question on at least our collective mind: Should the “Jamko” wedding “count” on our May Sweeps Scorecard?
“I mean, I was there all day [filming], so… I count it as a wedding!” he answered with a laugh.
Pressed about why more of the ceremony wasn’t shown, Estes at first offered, “We already did the vows at the dinner table…. But I’m grasping at straws. I got nothing.” He then suggested, “You know how Hitchcock taught us that the monster you don’t see is the scariest? Maybe the wedding you don’t see is the most beautiful?”
As for any “lost” footage, Estes shared, “We filmed her walking a little bit more, but there was no other dialogue.” The shoot ended as seen on-screen, with a close-up of Jamie.
That is small comfort to fans who RSVP’d for the root-for couple’s awaited nuptials. So is there any chance Season 10 could resume the wedding, at least through vows? “Anything is possible…,” Estes shrugged. “I haven’t foreseen or heard that, but if you write the right letter to the right CBS executive… it could probably move mountains!” (Though it probably won’t; so save your stamps, folks.)
I didn’t mind that ending, although I do wish we saw more. At least through them meeting at the alter.
What I really want to know though is when did Eddie’s partner (who I swear I saw at the wedding) or the rest of the precinct for that matter (presumably) found out about them?? Did I miss something?? They actively kept it a secret for so long after she transferred that I figured they’d make a big deal about everyone finding out.
Yeah, seems like the cat’s out of the bag if they get publicly married. This would have been covered on the news, I would think, Commissioner’s son marries fellow cop, his ex-partner, and the Commish walks her down the aisle? The media would be all over that. So at what point does someone question why she was working under his command, and when will she be forced to transfer out of his command?
Thank you for mentioning that…They worked together too long for no one to notice…and she was always in his face or putting in her two cents..she did not treat him like her boss.
Count it on the Scorecard!!!!!
Points to you Matt for the One Life to Live reference!
Favorite part of this post was the reference to OLTL in it’s heyday! Well played Sir, well played!
Where do I address my letter? I’ve got stamps to spare! I still feel duped after buying into all that hype about a wedding that happened OFF SCREEN.
Maggy Beth, you’re not the only duped person! I didnt think they were capable of such a ha-as-d” story line!
No chemistry even in Church!
I thought it was a bit insulting since the Entire season had been leading up to it
Also thought it was cool she wanted Frank to walk her down the aisle
I remember watching that OLTL wedding.
We all do.
No, we absolutely all do not…I had to look it up. I’ve never watched a soap opera in my life & I guarantee I’m not alone.
Episode sucked big time.. very disappointed…..
It was a huge build up to the wedding, not just on the show but on social media, and then it was a really big let down. The season finale should have just been about the wedding. You didn’t need anything else in that episode. Fans of the show would have been thrilled if they actually got the wedding & reception they were led to believe they were going to see. It was a big disappointment.
As a fan, we did not need to see the wedding. It’s a police drama for goodness sakes. Did you want to see the honeymoon as well…
Maybe a photo or two from the honeymoon will suffice. But I will have to ask if Vanessa Ray will become a regular next season…
All I know is that IMHO, she looked absolutely stunning at her wedding. 👰
She’s been listed as a regular cast member for a few seasons now…
And @Mary, it’s a police drama built around this family and their lives. Seeing two of the main characters get married is a big deal, and CBS made it a big deal.
Some of us would have liked to at least see and hear their vows to one another I have been patiently waiting for these 2 to get together since she came on the show and for them to finally get married on screen I was so looking forward to. As a big fan of the show they could have given us a little bit more of the wedding. It would have been nice for long time viewers to get that much and to watch them at the reception would have been hilarious I know Donnie/Danny has some really good dance moves
You said it beautifully!👏
After Anthony asked her “are you sure” I was worried for a few minutes that she was going to back out.
I thought that the wedding wasn’t shown was because a Reagan would be married in a Catholic ceremony, and the Reagans are VERY Catholic, which means a LONG ceremony if you go full-scale, full-on traditional. Jamie was being married by a bishop in a cathedral, and bishops in that setting don’t do short ceremonies. The whole ceremony would have difficult to write, too long to air, and it would be a challenge to try and cut it. I understand why the show didn’t do it.
In a mere 30 seconds, they could have easily shown Frank handing Eddie off to Jamie, and the bride and groom smiling & standing next to each other as the Bishop said, “Dearly Beloved.” If they would’ve done just that, I think their fans would’ve been a lot more satisfied. 😊
Exactly!!!
I would have liked it if they had shown more, but it doesn’t really bother me that much. It’s not like we haven’t seen a wedding before. I just enjoy seeing them together as a couple, so as long as they keep that up, I’m peachy.
All I could think of when he was standing at the altar with his brother and grandfather was doesn’t Jamie have any friends?
What a freakin letdown. The OLTL wedding, was not. I remember that ugly wedding dress had Kate had on, like it was yesterday.
Why would we expect anything else? An epic fail just like when Linda was written out….no involvement for fans in her death or at least a funeral? They want us to follow and love the characters and root for them and then just drop another story line in with no bridge and in these cases to me at least important bridges like a real family they keep saying they are portraying…..
Don’t get me wrong…love the show….but if they keep leaving out the big moments I’ll have to rethink it. And Tom Selleck’s comment that if it wasn’t like Charles and Diana’s wedding they would have to write in something dramatic shows he doesn’t understand what the audience who he wants to care for his on screen family wants…….disappointing…..a beautiful sweet family wedding was what many many would have loved to have seen…..looks like from the still pix they had it all right there……..
I was so looking forward to seeing a ceremony for the happy couple. It would have been a more special ending of the season since an usually romantic or couple in love actions were held off all season.
Compared to the weddings on The Big Bang Theory and NCIS: Los Angeles, (officated by Linda Hunt), and many other fictional TV shows; the Blue Bloods wedding was a major disappointment.
On Mom; first Bonnie and Adam eloped and many people felt left out, then they had a much bigger wedding and everyone felt better. Blue Bloods almost felt like an enlopement, with almost nothing of the cermony shown.
Did they really have take time away from the wedding with the “turf war” situation, that could have been done on another show? Did they have to have another Erin versus everyone else situation, (in this episode Eddie), that is always resolved in a few minutes and has turned into a preditable cliche.
Magnum P.I. (the original series with Tom Selleck), series finale had an memorable wedding that was much better than what was shown on Blue Bloods.
It was a real let down, and in September, with the season opener, I am sure it will start off months later, long after the wedding took place. That’s all the viewer is going to get from the wedding as far as the show is concerned.
Of course, everyone knows what a wedding looks like, but, that felt like “much ado about almost nothing”.
CBS advertised a wedding in a lot of commericals and showed almost nothing.
It felt like Blue Bloods got “cold feet” when it came to the wedding and walked out at the last minute.
A big build up to lousy, forgettable season finale.
too funny you made the OLTL comparison – I was both in stitches and reminisce about a show I loved and miss
Love Blue Bloods. But after seeing the last scene of the season finale, I thought to myself, “Was that it?” as I was looking at the time. I would have liked the show to include a little bit of the ceremony, the vows, the wedding kiss, and the reception.☹️ I’m assuming next season the characters will mention the wedding in normal conversation.
ALL THIS BIG HULA ABOUT THE WEDDING AND I THINK ALL OF US WHO WATCH THIS SHOW –IT TURNED OUT TO BE A BIG, BIG, BIG LET DOWN SHAME ON THE PRODEUCERS THAT REALLY SUCKED AND I HOPE THE START OFF THE NEW SEASON ON A BETTER NOTE REGARDING THE WEDDING AND THE RECEPTION AFTERWARDS THIS WAS AS BAD AS WHEN THEY HAD DANNY’S WIFE KILLED OFF THE SHOW…THE FANS DESERVE MRE THAT THIS…
DITTO! 😠
I too am enraged how they left you waiting for a full wedding. It’s like you never saw Niki graduate high school now she’s graduating college. At least you saw Danny’s son drive off to college. Gauge it from how Linda’s demise was revealed. I hope they do not open next season at the dinner reception and where is Renzuli I miss him
Blue Bloods my Favorite Show of all programs on. Keep it coming. What a Cast!
I watch BB every week, but will say that I was very disappointed in not seeing the wedding.
As for “Eddie” working on the same platoon where Jamie is the Sgt., that would not be permitted in real life. I don’t know about the U.S., but here in Toronto, a couple can work in the same station, but not on the same platoon. If they do want to be on the same platoon rotation, they must transfer to another station & hopefully get on the same rotation so the days off/days, night, afternoons are the same as well.
