Billboard Music Awards 2023 Set Online Ceremony Featuring 'Golden Tickets' For Spotify Superusers
This year's Billboard Music Awards will air online instead of on a broadcast network as in the past, Dick Clark Productions announced Thursday.
The annual awards ceremony will stream on BBMAs.watch on Sunday, Nov. 19. Performances and awards celebrations, which will take place at various locations worldwide, also will be posted on BBMAs' and Billboard's social-media channels.
The awards broadcast aired on NBC from 2018 to 2022. It previously aired on Fox (1990-2006) and, after a four-year hiatus, ABC (2011-2017).
This year, the BBMAs are collaborating with Spotify to identify fans who've "helped drive their favorite artists to the top spots on the Billboard charts," per an official release. These fans, who have played the most hours of music, will receive a "golden ticket" allowing them to attend their favorite artist's performance at the ceremony.
"We've heard the fans loud and clear, and we're excited to meet them where they are, and everywhere they want to consume music and content," said Maddy Mesevage, senior vice president, Marketing, via statement. "This year's show is an epic celebration of the fans who propelled their favorite artists to the top of the Billboard charts. To thank them, we are thrilled to work with Spotify and the artists themselves to offer their most loyal fans an experience they'll never forget."
