A Big Bangers dozen may be it.
Appearing at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena on Saturday, Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki — who serves as an executive producer on the new CBS sitcom Living Biblically (premiering Monday, Feb. 26) — suggested that next season of TV’s top-rated, most watched comedy will be the final one.

“The only manner in which the cast has discussed wrapping [The Big Bang Theory] has been that we’re all going to be very sad when that day comes,” Galecki told reporters. “But I think at this point everyone’s very comfortable with 12 seasons being a good time to go home and see our families.”
In addition to his ongoing run on Big Bang and his EP work on Biblically, Galecki this spring will also appear in one episode of ABC’s Roseanne nine-episode revival, reprising his role as David Healy.
Galecki said that scheduling played a part in his Roseanne encore being so brief. But the fact that he revisited his role on a rival network’s sitcom at all is not to be taken lightly.
When TVLine asked Galecki if the negotiations for him to be lent out to Roseanne were delicate, he nodded, “‘Delicate’ is a good word for it.
“It was probably most uncomfortable only to me,” he continued, “because obviously Big Bang is my home and my family. But I probably wouldn’t have been on Big Bang if it hadn’t been for Roseanne. So there were the politics to be considerate about, but everyone was very supportive.”
And if Roseanne in success is renewed for next season, he hopes to play David a bit more. “If they come back next year to do another eight or nine [episodes], I would love to do more than one [episode].
I don’t have enough expletives for this one.
How come I have a feeling that most of these reboots are going too crash and burn when the novelty wears off, and folks start to remember why they were canceled in the first place. ;)
That already happened with Heroes ;)
Will & Grace is proof that reboots can work.
Same with X Files, Prison Break, Magic School Bus. The idea can work, just have to get the right property
I can’t speak for Will and Grace or X Files that I don’t watch but I think revivals on general can’t work for more than limited extend. I mean, yes for Magic School Bus there will all be new topics to discuss and Prison Break worked because it was tying some loose ends (I am a big fan and I loved season 5). But what happens next? Some actors were happy to move on after the end of original show and now they are kinda bound by revivals. For example I am sure that Gillian Anderson was happy to come back on S10 of X Files but to some limited extend. Now she wants out, and that’s complicated regarding the story they are telling, regarding the fan who say that no XFile without Scully…For Prison Break it is very vague about who will come back on S6. On Heroes, some original characters were missing and I am sure that explained why it failed (among some other issues I agree). That’s great that the actors come back, often doing it for the fans. Same for the creative aspect, sometimes show are cancelled because the story became ridiculous and you could feel that the writers didn’t know what to do. I am all in for revival and sequel but with some limits. I agree with Laurelnev that if those revivals overstay their welcome, original “issue” might be back.
The Dick Van Dyke Show Revisited Special from I think 2004 was an example of it not working.
Also Hawaii Five-O and Lethal Weapon.
There are some of us that disagree on that point.
I am a huge will & grace fan but I have to disagree, while I love these characters the reboot is nowhere near as witty and exciting as the original run
Totally agree. Loved the original Will & Grace but the reboot feels soulless. The humor seems forced & dated. Reboots rarely work, except when they look for new way to interpret the story.
.
MacGyver is a good example. I never expected to enjoy that reboot & yet other than the title, some character names & general premise – it seems new & fresh.
Not to mention an excellent ensemble cast.
It’s nice to see an actor acknowledge his roots and be grateful. Kudos, Johnny. I still laugh out at least once an episode. Pretty good for an eleven year old sitcom.
I do not want Roseanne back on TV.
She sucks. They should keep big bang on. Much better show.
It’s not an either/or situation. Also… what?
Roseanne won’t be back on TV (at your house) if you don’t watch it. Simple.
Even though we have been lucky to have bbt on for so long will still be sad when it’s gone off the air. This weeks epsisode was really funny and in my opinion, honestlt so much better than many comedies on tv.
I hope so. No show needs 20 seasons.
Not even Gunsmoke? I think I probably enjoyed almost all 635 episodes of that.
I would of preferred Brady Bunch when I was six….they cancelled it for Gunsmoke!
No. Gilligan’s Island was canceled so Gunsmoke could remain on the air for Mrs. Paley.
wow so many shows suffered because of Gunsmoke?
If next season is the end, I hope that Raj gets a happy ending. At this point, everyone else will have one. I’d hate for him to be the odd man out. Maybe the final, or one of the final, episodes can be his wedding.
What would be funny though is if Stewart got married and it ended with Raj being the only one single and without a girlfriend.
Yeah. Amd give Stewart equal pay parity with his other co-stars, :D
Stuart is under appreciated. He makes me laugh every time he is on screen.
Well, Stewart can’t get married if Raj doesn’t!
I love TBBT but it hasn’t been as funny as it used to be… I would like to see Raj find love and I would like to see Stewart at least date a gorgeous woman … Anyway, I am fine with next season being the series finale.
It’s been a really good & entertaining run. There were a few episodes in the last season or 2 that seemed to be working overtime for the laughs & some were fantastically funny. The unevenness has dropped TBBT from a must watch straight-away to what else is on first.
.
As for Roseanne, sorry, didn’t like the show the first time (only watched a few episodes) & certainly won’t be going back.
Won’t miss BBT, as I finally stopped watching after Amy’s answer to Sheldon’s proposal. The show had flaws for me and became tired. However, if the 12th season is the last, I may revisit it and finish it off.
Just no thank you
How many season do you want it to run?
Ok he never said season 12 was likely it. He just said that if that if it were to end at 12 they would be ok with it.
Nope. I was there.
Ok then maybe make it a bit more clear what he’s saying, because when I read it sounds more like he’s content with what he’s got and somewhat indifferent about when the show where to end, however bering that you were there, you probably were able read more into the context and his emotions then a reader so I trust you.
Danny…. much cooler and funner
Bull. CBS will move heaven and earth to bring TBBT back. Negotiation tactics.
It will probably end with Amy giving birth to a new Sheldon .
Well they have to either end the show or start showing Haley.[sp.]. She would be walking and talking by now.
Maybe Carlton the doorman will babysit her as well…
Methinks Halley, and hating I know all this stuff.
Sorry to point out something sad….Alphabet mystery writer Sue Grafton was an original writer on the Rhoda show, and wrote for “Carlton your doorman”. RIP Sue Grafton.
The producers have said that Halley will be like her grandmother. Heard but never seen.
But as far as talking, it would be great if Halley talked in the same screechy voice as
her grandmother.
I love the big bang theory. I love there relationships and how they’ve worked through things and still remain friends. They can poke fun yet really care and be there for one another. I love that. Hope it continues for awhile longer. Hate to see it end. Thank you for bringing us laughter, tears, love, and closeness. Sincerely, Sheri Kohrman
Get to 300 episodes episode first “TBBT”…
I always love seeing the RBs…
Never gets old thinking WTF happened to the actors! They got old, fat, and boring.
While I stayed so youthful, thin, and charming. My husband laughs and laughs.
Granted, it’s a sweet payday, but Galecki isn’t being challenged in the role. He was the straight man to Parson’s eccentric for so many seasons, but now Sheldon’s arc is with Amy. Galecki and Cuoco are basically ‘supporting ‘ now. a few episodes ago it was even subtly acknowledged by the writers Leonard and Penny have nothing to do. 12 seasons is a damn good run! I’d follow Johnny anywhere….always been a fan.
Anxiously waiting for the return of Roseanne!
As annoying as Sheldon has become over the past several seasons, a fitting ending would be to institutionalize him where he can find the help he obviously requires. He has dominated the program much the same way as Alan Alda decimated MASH.
Alan Alda decimated MASH? Yeah, No.
Aww that is sad . love the show hope it ends good best to all the characters
The end of BBT comes about 9 years too late but at least they will finally put it to sleep.
I don’t know about TBBT ending now that there’s Young Sheldon. After next season, Young Sheldon will only be two years old, and I wonder if CBS would end TBBT while keeping its prequel. We may see something like what has happened at NCIS. Individual actors may choose to move on, but TBBT could still continue as a series.
NCIS continued on after JAG was cancelled.
YoungShrldon was likely orders cause they strongly feel BBT will end in s12 so they need to find its successor /replacement and they also need to find a new hit comedy do their infamous comedy blocks don’t totally collapse further then BBT ends.
Please don’t cut lucifer its a dynamite show. Please please
Jim please don’t leave the show and please don’t let the show be cancelled I’m.a huge fan of the show and all of the cast. Please reconsider your decision to leave.
