There’s no putting a positive spin on this one. CBS has cancelled B Positive after two seasons, TVLine has learned. [pmc_inline_gallery]
B Positive‘s sophomore run averaged 5.7 million total weekly viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), steady in audience but down two tenths in the demo from its Season 1 tallies. Out of the seven sitcoms CBS has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 6 in audience and ties for No. 5 in the demo.
Whereas Season 1 of the multi-camera sitcom was about Thomas Middleditch’s Drew, a man in need of a kidney, and Annaleigh Ashford’s Gina, his unlikely donor, Season 2 followed up the successful transplant with a financial windfall for Gina, steering her life — and in turn the series — in a very new direction. A complete overhaul came in Episode 3, when Gina took over Valley Hills and the series introduced a new Ensemble of a Certain Age, including Hector Elizondo, Jane Seymour, Ben Vereen and Jim Beaver.
In the Season 2 finale, which aired March 10, Gina at last realized that she wants to pursue a relationship with Drew. Alas, when she ran out to the parking lot to confront the man she loves, he’d already driven off in his camper van, having decided to spend the next few months in Alaska to put some space between them. And though the senior residents had decided to stay put at Valley Hills rather than jump ship for Golden Horizons, it quickly became apparent that that decision was out of their hands. It would be up to their children (and their wallets) to make those choices for them — especially with Golden Horizons offering such deep discounts in an effort knock Gina’s retirement home out of business.
“There is the hope for a Season 3 exploring a genuine relationship between Gina and Drew,” executive producer Chuck Lorre told TVLine at the time. “There are [still going to be] life-and-death issues that are inevitable among the residents of Valley Hills… and we also have built in this ongoing, cutthroat competition with Golden Horizons.”
While B Positive won’t be back for the 2022-23 season, CBS previously handed renewals to fellow sitcoms Bob Hearts Abishola (for Season 4), Ghosts (for Season 2) and The Neighborhood (for Season 5, new showrunner TBA). Young Sheldon, currently in Season 5, was previously renewed through Season 7.
The cancellation caps B Positive‘s run at 34 episodes.

You know broadcast tv is dead when two Chuck Lorre comedies are canceled on the same season.
He will come back with another offering next season. It is though weird. The thought they would cancel two of them. When they canceled “Al”, I thought it would give one more shot to Positive. I guess not. Both were very low rated. All I want to know is if Magnum is saved or not.
Magnum got axed
Axed by cbs, picked up by nbc
Magnum got axed by cbs but got picked up by NBC for 2 10 episode seasons last I read.
Yes, that happened AFTER this news story went up, commenters here didn’t know.

B Positive
As a senior myself I thoroughly enjoyed this comedy. All the Actors portrayed their characters brilliantly! Going to miss it very much!
Watched Ghosts only 3 times and Im shocked this one was renewed and B Positive was cancelled!
Unfortunately Seniors don’t count when it comes to TV viewing because they don’t buy anything.
Anyone 55 and older is considered a senior, and many of us are enjoying successful careers with money to buy things, eat out, and tip well. Don’t write us off so quickly, Sonny. 😉
Yes but advertising doesn’t sway you. It’s not that you don’y have money, it’s that you already know exactly how you want to spend it and how you don’t.
.
I often wonder if that’s still true for the Boomer generation rather than their parents’ generation, but advertisers seem to think it is.
I agree 💯 👍
Totally Agree with this statement!
So the suits at CBS renew a ridiculous show like Ghosts, and cancel a nice show like B positive? Bunch of AH’s!
Ghosts is critically acclaimed and does much better in the ratings.
Ghosts is hilarious, and has better ratings than B Positive. I realize nothing pleases anyone, and I’m sorry a show you like got cancelled, but them’s the breaks.
Ghosts is favorite of mine. Love it.
Watched Ghosts live every week, and loved basically every minute.
I am interested in how the opening of the B&B will impact things.
So am I. Ghosts is the only show I watched live every week it aired. I am very much looking forward to Season 2. :)
Ghosts is a great show. I don’t understand how they kept Bob ? Abishola and The Neighborhood. Those two are no better than the awful 2 Broke Girls.
I loved 2 Broke Girls
@Camilla, me too!!!!
me 3
Me 4
Hey!!!! Don’t bag on 2 Broke Girls, that show was great and I still watch the reruns on TBS. I implore you to re-watch any episode (especially eps within seasons 2 &3) and not laugh at the humor.
Trust me when I tell you it won’t be a problem to watch 2 Broke Girls and not laugh.
it was toilet tv…so stupid it was insulting
I love Bob Hearts Abishola! IT didn’t get cancelled because people are watching it.
Sad was a good show better then the stuff they keep young Sheldon sicking show. That stupid bowling one not very good but they don’t care what people like
Ghosts is good, B positive isn’t.
I stopped watching B Positive after about two or three episodes. There is nothing even remotely amusing about needing a kidney or about dialysis — not even a crack a smile amusing. I am sorry about United States of Al — but not really surprised. Love Young Sheldon!
I guess today is the day of the cancelled parade
Monday is the start of the network Upfronts, and NBC and CBS are first up, so it’s only a matter of days.
Not really a surprise. It was like a completely different show between season 1 and 2.
A Bummer about B Positive! I enjoyed seeing the elders that I grew up with Ben Vereen, Linda Lavin, and others. The show was a feel good show. I was hoping for another season. Sometimes the Executives to think about the viewers and not money.
I give Al five ⭐ rating ! Come on CBS wake up! Turn loose some of that new junk that you’ve been playing!
Lots of shows become different in S2 and go on for a long time.
Hardly surprising. Loved the first season and how it dealt with the dynamics of health complications with good natured humor. The second season felt like a completely different show and I wasn’t a fan of the new narrative, even though I love the talent, I didn’t stick with it.
All these late cancellations does not leave me hopeful for Magnum.
Surprised it’s still around. Everything else Lenkov was involved with got totally screwed over.
Magnum got cancelled
Magnum got axed by cbs but it was picked up by nbc.
I LOVED this show. And what a lineup of actors.
So disappointed. . .
Not surprised or disappointed by this one. I didn’t like the season 2 storyline at all. The nursing home setting felt totally unrealistic, even for a sitcom.
Sorry for everyone who truly enjoyed the show and who will miss it. Nothing about it ever appealed to me. The main female protagonist always annoyed me in the commercials enough to make me not want to watch it. I was amazed at how many good actors who starred in it. Wish them nothing but the best.
Verrrrrry bad decision to cancel B Positive. I enjoyed the cast and story. Glad that The Neighborhood is safe. Another great one.
I agree
I guess it’s time to cancel my Paramount plus since CBS cancelled my TWO FAVORITE SHOWS! So upset that in less then 12hrs two of my favorite shows were cancelled. Couldn’t have just been this one BUT United States of Al also! Absolutely WORST decision on CBS’s part! Ghosts isn’t even that great to continue that show but not these two Chuck Lorre shows! I really hope another streaming service picks these up!
I hate when a favorite show is cancelled. I’m still stung by the cancellation of Dark Matter on Syfy and it’s been a few years. I hope you find something else worth enjoying.
Oddly, out of all of the other streaming services, Paramount+ is what I am watching the most out of, lately. It has the original MacGyver series (a favorite of mine), plus all of the new Star Treks, all of the Scream movies, etc.
I loved Dark Matter. Too bad #1 left
As stated elsewhere, B-Positive was basically a different show in season 2, and to me, anyway, a less-interesting show. I’m much more disappointed that US of Al was cancelled. And I’m a big Ghosts fan, I think it’s a fantastic show.
I agree. We liked B Positive initially but the creators seemed to lose their way. United States of Al had entered a strange phase but we were hopefully it would turn around. At least Ghosts will be back.
IMHO, season 1 was great and season 2 was wildly variable in quality and humor. It was like watching a different series and not an improvement. I would have liked to have seen a third season to see if it could rediscover itself.
100% agree with you Kevin. It was hard getting through the 2nd season. Nowhere near as enjoyable as the first.
I was ready to accept either decision on this bubble show.
I watched both seasons, but It was like two completely different shows. Bizarre.
So that’s three from my skimpy list of network shows that ended this year (BPositive, blackish and This Is Us). I think that will be it.
I was hoping after hearing of U.S. of Al’s cancellation that this one would be renewed. I liked both shows, but I liked B Positive better.
I’m not upset over B+ going. Season 2 with it’s drastic change of direction – Drew being reduced to almost nothing and his daughter disappearing all together – had me not caring if I missed it.
What a shame. Some very fine “A-List “ actors – Vereen ,Elizondo, Lavin etc and some good written story lines. My wife and I discovered it and wee enjoying it. Quality TV doesn’t stick around very long it seems.
Yus! I didn’t watch the show, but the number of great actors who starred in it was amazing.
Makes me sick!! Such jerks to cancel B Positive!!
This is indeed unfortunate. Always got a kick out of this show. The cast and show will be missed.
A makeover after a first season is never the most encouraging sign, but the shift was successful. I really enjoy Annaleigh Ashford and it was a treat to watch all the veteran characters strut their stuff. I hope CBS does not abandon sitcoms.
Bowling show not worth watching taking ng B positive off is such a bad choice I know lots of folks who really enjoyed it .
I love this show because I live in a nursing home and I was able to release two things that go on in a nursing home. Please reconsider and bring the show back on I thought it was hilariously
My mom will be disappointed. She liked the show.
Beyond disappointed, really loved this show!
Uggh love this show they cancel all the good shows done with local stations
Sad and sorry it was cancelled.
I really liked B Positive!
Great cast and fun show.
Was a good show but did go a little off course ending up in a retirement village.
