WrestleMania 39 Results: Who Won on Night 2 of the WWE Event?

Brock Lesnar vs. Omos

With Bock Lesnar standing tall at 6’3”, and Omos at a whopping 7’3”, this was a battle of the big men.

Omos immediately took control of the match, throwing Lesnar around like a rag doll. He continued to wear Lesnar down with numerous body slams and bear hugs. Omos then chokeslammed Lesnar with chilling ease, and it looked like that would be it. But Lesnar fought back with three suplexes in a row. Lesnar then tried to set him up for his finishing move, the F5, but dropped Omos. Lesnar completed the finisher on his second attempt, getting the pin in about five minutes.

Winner: Brock Lesnar

Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez vs. Shotzi and Natalya vs. Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler vs. Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville

There were a few hits and misses, like Chelsea Green attempting a missile drop kick from the top rope and Raquel Rodriguez not even flinching as she stepped out of the way. Raquel, Natalya and Liv Morgan then powerbombed Shayna Baszler. Immediately after that, Shotzi landed a crossbody from the top rope to take out Green and Sonya Deville.

Another nice spot saw Green leap off the top rope onto the women outside the ring to avoid going one-on-one with Rodriguez. Plus, Natalya put both Green and Deville in a double sharpshooter that was interrupted by Liv Morgan with a drop kick from the top rope. Shotzi hit Morgan with a nice double-armed suplex. But Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey were laying in wait. Bazsler took out Morgan, who tried to pin Shotzi. Rousey then locked in the armbar on Shotzi and made her tap.

Winners: Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler

Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat: Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus

Titus O’Neil (1x 24/7 Champion, 1x Tag Team Champion)  joined the announcer’s table to add his commentary to this Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship.

Tonight marked Gunther’s 296th day as champion. This match was brutal from the start, with Gunther delivering several hard chops to Sheamus’ chest and leaving bright pink welt marks.

Drew McIntyer locked in a few chops of his own, and then it turned in to a chop-off. Gunther broke it up with a boot to the gut, and Sheamus rejoined the action with some hard fists. If you ever wondered about the brutality of this match, all you had to do was look at their chests. Sheamus was bleeding and Gunther’s chest was red.  At one point, McIntyer and Sheamus tag-teamed to deliver 12 chops to Gunther. Sheamus then had McIntyer against the ropes and laid into him with 29 chops before collapsing.

Other nice spots included Sheamus landing the Celtic Cross for a near fall, McIntyer throwing Sheamus in the corner with a belly-to-belly suplex, McIntyer launching himself over the top rope onto Sheamus, and several nail-biting close calls. Sheamus then clocked McIntyer with a Brogue Kick and it looked like it was over, but McIntyer kicked out!

Gunther was nowhere to be seen as McIntyer and Sheamus beat the hell out of each other. Just when Sheamus locked in the pin on McIntyer, Gunther broke up the count by dropping in from the top rope. He then finished both off with back-to-back power bombs, pinning McIntyer to retain his title.

Winner: Gunther

Raw Women's Championship: Bianca Belair (c) vs Asuka

Fans were treated to a parade of extras in Asuka’s gear before the Empress of Tomorrow revealed herself. Bianca Belair, meanwhile, brought #BlackGirlMagic to the big stage. The Raw Women’s Champion made her grand entrance with the Divas of Compton dance troupe sporting her signature ponytail.

In the post-event press conference, Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque revealed that the girl dancing next to Belair had lost her mother that morning.

Belair looked great early on, backing Asuka into the corner with a series of punches. Asuka countered with a few swinging kicks and a sliding knee. Belair showed off her athleticism with several flips, but landed right into an armbar. The fight spilled to the outside of the ring, and both attempted suplexes before Asuka — a master technician — pulled Belair into another submission. Belair broke free and slammed Asuka onto the floor with a power bomb.

On the apron, Asuka drop kicked Belair into the ring post, and Belair returned the favor by slamming her face into the post. Belair then suplexed Asuka from the top rope, displaying her impressive strength. Still, Asuka kicked out.

Belair hit Asuka with a running blockbuster followed by a springboard moonsault for the pin, and Asuka again kicked out at the last second. Both women eventually found themselves on the top rope, with Asuka successfully fighting off Belair’s attempt at a Samoan drop. Asuka then grabbed Belair by the hair to hit a codebreaker for a near fall.  When Asuka tried to mist Belair, the champion ducked out of the way and lifted her on her shoulders. Asuka countered into an armbar, and Belair again deadlifted her to hit the Kiss of Death — securing the pin and retaining her Raw Women’s Championship.

Winner: Bianca Belair

Surprise Match: The Miz vs. Shane McMahon

The Miz complained about having to fight in his alleged $10,000 suit, and WrestleMania co-host Snoop Dogg cued up his surprise guest: Shane McMahon.

Snoop called in a referee and the match was on. McMahon backed Miz into the corner with a few left-handed punches. He even leap-frogged over the Miz and appeared to have landed wrong. As the refs checked on McMahon, Snoop intervened by laying Miz out with a right hook. After locking a few more punches, Snoop kicked Miz’s arms together and hit the People’s Elbow (one of The Rock’s signature moves) to get the pin.

Winner: Snoop Dogg

Hell in a Cell: Edge vs. Finn Bàlor

As a nod to his earlier WWE days as a member of The Brood (with Christian and Gangrel), Edge rose from beneath the stage surrounded by fire. Entering as “Brood Edge,” he made a huge statement with a silver mask that covered his entire head, along with black wings for added drama.

Finn Bàlor also revived a past gimmick, making his way to the ring as The Demon — elaborate body paint and all. He even brought the smoke, literally, by stalking to the steel cage with hand-held objects that emitted cloudy, purple theatrics.

Both men wasted no time in grabbing their objects from under the ring. Bàlor went for the kendo stick, while Edge reached for a steel chair. They each got their licks in, with Edge hitting Bàlor with the chair and Bàlor laying into the Hall of Fame wrestler multiple times with the kendo stick.

Other highlights included Edge paying tribute to Gangrel by hitting Bàlor with an Impaler DDT. Bàlor then drove Edge through a table with a running drop kick. Edge even brought in a ladder, which he literally threw in Bàlor’s face. The referee stopped the match to have Bàlor looked at since he was bleeding. (Note: Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque, aka Triple H, later confirmed that Bàlor received staples in his head at ringside and then continued the match.)

Bàlor recovered enough to attempt his finisher, the Coup de Grace, which Edge avoided only to spear himself into a ladder. Bàlor then went for a second Coup de Grace and connected, but Edge kicked out.

The crowd went wild when Edge hit the Edgecution on Bàlor off a ladder, and again minutes later as Bàlor climbed up the cell for a missed Coup de Grace through a table. Edge then speared Bàlor and went for the pin, but Bàlor kicked out.  With the Demon down, Edge hit the Con-Chair-To (a signature move from his tag team with Christian) for the pin.

Winner: Edge

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes

For his first WrestleMania main event match, Cody Rhodes wore an elaborate coat, which featured white feathers and a floor-length train.  In a touching moment, he hugged his family and then handed his weight belt to Brodie Lee’s son Brodie Lee Jr. (Brodie Lee died in 2020.)

Roman Reigns’ grand entrance featured six live piano players signaling his arrival. Reigns has been champion for an outstanding 945 days.  Before the match started, the long-reigning champion took the mic to demand that the more than 80,000 in attendance acknowledged him.

Both wrestlers displayed their technical agility throughout the match: Rhodes landed a nice drop kick while Reigns delivered a smooth suplex. An arrogant Reigns thought he tossed Rhodes out of the ring, but Rhodes flipped himself back over and caught Reigns by surprise. But Reigns quickly regained control, dropping Rhodes on the mat and then tossing him around on the outside of the ring. But you can never count Rhodes out. He flipped the scripted on Reigns, dropping the champ with a body slam.

Solo Sikoa took a cheap shot at Rhodes while he was near the edge of the ring, and Reigns continued his beat down. Sikoa again distracted Rhodes, who walked into a clothesline from Reigns. When Reigns tried to slam Rhodes through the announcer’s table, Rhodes countered and threw Reigns through the table. He used that momentum to get Reigns back into the ring, where he landed several big moves, including the Cody Cutter from off the ropes. But Reigns kicked out!

The referee finally caught Sikoa interfering and sent him back to the locker rooms. Rhodes then connected with a super kick followed by the Cross Rhodes, only for Reigns to kick out at the last second. Reigns regained control, and hit Rhodes with the Rock Bottom. (Note: Reigns and The Rock are cousins.)

Reigns went for the Superman Punch, but Rhodes countered with a pedigree, and got a near fall. The hard hits continued, with Rhodes leaping off the ropes and into a brutal Superman Punch. Rhodes paid tribute to his father Dusty by locking in the Figure Four submission hold, and Reigns countered, forcing Rhodes to reach for the ropes to break the hold. Several more near falls from both men kept things chaotic.

Reigns locked in the Guillotine choke hold and it looked like Rhodes would submit. But Rhodes punched his way out of it, and both men went down with a double clothesline. Rhodes prepared for another Cross Rhodes, but the Usos interfered and dropped him with the 1D. Newly crowned Tag Team Champions Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens dropped in as reinforcements. Zayn got his long-awaited revenge on Reigns, hitting the champion with a Helluva Kick.

After the Usos and Zayn and Owens cleared the ring, Reigns and Rhodes went back at it, exchanging blows. Rhodes gained the upper hand with his father’s signature punches, and then landed back-to-back Cross Rhodes. But then, Sikoa returned from the locker room and hit Rhodes with a Samoan Spike to the throat, and Reigns finished him off with a spear.

Winner: Roman Reigns
