Ousted Dancing With The Stars Host Tom Bergeron Reacts To Backstage Shake-Up: 'Karma's A Bitch'

Nearly two years after being unceremoniously dropped as host of Dancing With the Stars, Tom Bergeron is throwing shade at his former ABC stomping ground amid another shake-up at the show.

On Thursday, our sister site Deadline reported that veteran DWTS executive producer Andrew Llinares — who presided over the 2020 exits of Bergeron and co-emcee Erin Andrews — had parted ways with the show ahead of next fall's 31's cycle.

Hours later, Bergeron, who was replaced on DWTS by Tyra Banks, was asked by a fan on Twitter for his reaction to the news. His three-word response? "Karma's a bitch."

On a 2021 episode of the late Bob Saget's podcast, Bergeron traced his eventual departure back to Summer 2019, just a few weeks before Dancing returned for Season 28. Around that time, Bergeron said, there were "personnel changes behind the scenes" at the show, "and those people and I did not see eye-to-eye about how best to present the show," particularly when it came to casting political personalities. Per Bergeron, he felt that Dancing should be "an oasis, for two hours every week, from all of the nonsense and the divisiveness going on right now, and let's not put political people in there."

Bergeron Out!

July 13, 2020: "Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me," Bergeron announced on Twitter. "It's been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I'm grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?"

Andrews Also Out!

July 13, 2020: On the heels of lBergeron's shocking exit announcement, ABC confirmed that co-host Erin Andrews had also been pink-slipped. In joint statement, ABC and BBC Studios, which produces the series, said: "Tom Bergeron will forever be part of the Dancing with the Stars family. As we embark on a new creative direction, he departs the show with our sincerest thanks and gratitude for his trademark wit and charm that helped make this show a success. Erin will also not be returning, and we appreciate all that she brought to the ballroom. Fans have been rooting for her since she originally competed as a contestant back in 2010, and her signature sense of humor has become a hallmark of the show."

Andrews Speaks!

July 14, 2020: "Thank you ABC and the entire Dancing With the Stars family for [six] memorable seasons," Andrews tweeted. "Those years wouldn't have been as special without my loving host Tom Bergeron, the talented dancers, and witty judges. I will always cherish my days on that set, even if I wasn't the best at walking in heels."

Tyra's In!

July 14, 2020: One day after Bergeron and Andrews' exits were announced, and just hours after Andrews spoke publicly about her departure, ABC announced that it had tapped Tyra Banks as the series' new headliner. In a statement, the erstwhile host of America's Top Model and America's Got Talent said, "I've been a fan of DWTS since its beginning. The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances. It's always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk. Tom has set a powerful stage, and I'm excited to continue the legacy and put on my executive producer and hosting hats."
