As the new promo for the upcoming Amazing Race season explains: “The longest pit stop is over!”
After a l’il ol’ thing called the pandemic shut down production mid-taping, the Season 33 racers are finally ready to take their marks. Premiering Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 8/7c with a two-hour premiere (and continuing in its regular 9/8c time slot Wednesday, Jan. 12), 11 new duos will begin a race around the world as they compete for that hefty $1 million grand prize.
Teams will trek through 13 cities and seven countries (including Scotland, France, Switzerland and Portugal) as they embark on a journey that will take them over 22,000 miles.
As seen in the clip above, Season 33 will challenge these newbies mentally and physically, as they tackle baking challenges, dart throwing (where’s Ted Lasso when you need him?), tricky wine barrels and surely a few death-defying stunts that’ll raise their blood pressures.
The new cast (meet them via the photos and videos below) include a pair of singing police officers, the Holderness Family’s Mom and Dad, childhood friends and twin radio hosts, among others.
Season 33 began filming in February of 2020, but was forced to shut down after only three legs, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed and was completed this fall.
“We implemented many new safety features that made this historic season possible, including having the cast and crew fly by private chartered plane,” co-creator and executive producer Elise Doganieri said in a statement. “The Race has been highlighting the beauty of traveling for over 20 years, and we are extremely grateful to showcase again the wonders of the world with this incredible cast.”
