HONORABLE MENTION: Matthew Macfadyen

Shiv and Tom’s marriage on Succession has always been on shaky ground, but the ground beneath them disappeared completely this week as they tore into each other in a brutally savage war of words, and Matthew Macfadyen was sensational as Tom shifted back and forth between cruelty and heartbreak. (We would honor Sarah Snook here as well, but we already honored her a few weeks back.) These two know exactly what to say to hurt each other the most, and Tom went right for the jugular, attacking Shiv’s relationship with her dad Logan and even her capability of being a mother — which was extra painful since he doesn’t know Shiv is pregnant. Macfadyen’s tear-filled eyes and strained voice, though, told us that Tom really did love Shiv, in spite of everything. It was a tough scene to watch, but seeing Macfadyen excavate the depths of Tom’s battered soul made it all worth it.
Sophie Nélisse from Yellowjackets deserved the top spot this week!
Sophie Nelisse from Yellowjackets?
I have to throw my two cents in for Ronen Rubinstein and Rafael Silva as TK Strand and Carlos Reyes on 911 Lonestar. Their conversation regarding being soulmates was amazing.
Hopefully they are waiting on the wedding next week. They should knock it out of the park.
Rafael Silva was already mentioned in February: https://tvline.com/lists/harrison-ford-1923-performance-season-1-episode-6-jacob/rafael-silva-911-lone-star-performance/
Sarah Goldberg and Matthew Macfadyen were exceptional in their respective series this week. I’m just a little surprised by the omission of Sophie Nélisse and the cast of Yellowjackets in general so far, but there are still three more episodes to go, so they still have a chance.
Josh Randall from Station 19…
I am SHOCKED that Josh Randall and Barrett Doss aren’t here!!
I was on the verge of sobbing from their storyline. I’m so accustomed to this with Barrett Doss who is ALWAYS fabulous and can do some serious heavy lifting on this series, but Josh Randall was absolutely exceptional. When he finally broke down sobbing I was physically and emotionally exhausted for him and that Breakthrough.
Goodness they were snubbed of recognition here, for sure. Whew! Powerful performances from both.
I was coming here to mention him too. He took his usually villainous Captain Beckett this week and really humanized him.
Good Trouble isn’t usually anyone’s radar hear, and this season isn’t the greatest, but Cierra Ramirez has been phenomenal this season.
But the latest episode had TJ Linnard’s soul crushing performance as Evan, who finally released all his frustrations and put into words how wrecked he was battling retrograde amnesia. So much of that storyline has focused on how much his amnesia has affected Mariana. But that final scene of the episode we got a real, hard look at how he’s doing with not being able to recognize her version of who he was with who he thought he’s been and gripping to and only being able to trust this woman he doesn’t even remember but whom he gave all his company and Healthcare decisions to…
Linnard has always had to show some restraint with this billionaire with ASD, but he was a standout during that scene.
I’m watching now and thought the same thing about Ciera when she spoke to the employees about helping Evan.
I had pictured Chris finally getting an honorable mention on here before NCIS LA ended. Though, in my mind, I had pictured him and Linda getting the mention together in a big episode where Hetty was actually around to tell him the answers.
YES, Matthew Macfadyen!! He was unbelievable!!
Queen Charlotte robbed
Corey Mylchreest definitely deserved an Honorable Mention… not to mention India Amarteifio and Golda Rosheuvel as well.
Chris O’donnell was amazing! I felt every emotion he was projecting. Can’t wait to see what he does next.
Tracy Spiridakos as Hailey Upton from Chicago PD. Say what you will about how the writers and showrunner have absolutely trashed Halstead since he left in 10×3, but Tracy has played the hell out of Upton this entire season. The last three minutes were without dialogue but Tracy conveyed everything Upton was feeling through her facial expressions and especially her eyes.
Absolutely yes to Sarah Goldberg and Matthew Macfadyen! But I would have included, as others have mentioned, Sophie Nelisse.
Hank Azaria for Mrs Maisel, for the piano scene alone!!!
I was hoping to see Isacc from Ted Lasso listed this week!
I wish we’d stop acting like “Barry” is still a good series. The first season was amazing, but the tone and direction of this show has shifted to a point where it’s unrecognizable and not good. Also, I’m sure Sarah Goldberg is a fine actress but the character of Sally has always been the worst one on the show. If this weren’t the final (boring) season I think I’d be abandoning it.
I love BARRY but this time jump idea was awful. It sucks. Oh it’s creative, it’s art they’ll say but geez what an awful & depressing episode five was. Eight years go by and where is everyone else? Five left me feeling cheated.
I quit watching Barry because Sally was beyond annoying.
Matthew Macfadyen was superb. The visceral anguish and revulsion that came across from Tom and Shiv’s argument was just tragic. It was an essential and long overdo conversation that needed to have.
Not rewarding Sophie Nélisse for her episode 6 performance in Yellowjackets is insane…. I thought she would be a shoe-in for performer of the week. It wasn’t even close.
Every week I would add Bitsie Tulloch & Tyler Hoechlin on Superman & Lois. Portraying the battle with cancer that is powerful and real to all people and portraying it with such power! It is an amazing series!
