Real Housewives Of Miami Is Now The Best Housewives Show — Here's Why
We have news to break and don't be all, like, uncool about it: We're officially declaring The Real Housewives of Miami as the best Housewives franchise. Every other city can go to sleep, GO TO SLEEP!
RHOM, now streaming on Peacock after starting out on Bravo, is wrapping up its fifth season (and its second after a 10-year hiatus), and we are here for it! Sure, we enjoyed it as much as the next guy 10 years ago, but these last two seasons have us wondering: Was it always this good? Why did they ever let these women out of our sight? Who's to blame for this blunder? Andy Cohen?
In other franchises, we have sprinter vans, psychic readings and stuffy formal dinners with seating assignments. In Miami we have OnlyFans photoshoots, witchy healing ceremonies and pool parties with flamingo floaties. The Real Housewives of Miami is fresh, it's real and my god, it's entertaining.
Sure, there are particular seasons of other franchises that are standouts (early New Jersey and all of NeNe's Atlanta are reality TV gold), but if we're talking about the best franchise on RIGHT NOW, it's RHOM without a question. Don't try to tell us otherwise. This isn't an opinion, this is an obvious truth.
Don't believe us? We've listed the top five reasons that make RHOM the most elite Housewives installment. Take a look and tell us what you think. Do you think The Real Housewives of Miami is the best? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
5. The Best 'Friends of' We've Ever Seen
Marysol and Kiki? We'll hold for the applause. No other official "friends of" on Housewives have made as much of an impact as these hooligans. They shine in every group event they're in (I mean, Kiki during that rage release?), not to mention their confessional interviews (Marysol's reaction to Julia's diapered goat lives rent-free in our heads). In other franchises, we aren't even always able to decipher who is an official friend and who is an innocent bystander repeatedly captured by the camera. (Dana "25K Sunglasses" Wilkey, who?) On the contrary, these two Miami women belong in the group, and the "friend of" designation helps them shine without the pressures of cultivating a full-blown storyline.
4. A Housewife Farmer Married to a World-Class Tennis Player? Say No More!
Julia, Julia, Julia, you little gem, you! Never in Housewives history have we encountered such a glamorous Russian farmer, who happens to be married to legendary Czech-American tennis player Martina Navratilova. Julia Lemigova is such a unique find for the show, and she's blazing trails as the franchise's first gay Housewife. She doesn't need the series to boost her street cred (her trophy-award winning wife lends her all the cred she needs) or boost her business (um, she's a farmer!). She values the simple things while maintaining an appreciation for luxury. Julia manages to always stay in the mix, but remains a grounding character for a series that can sometimes lean too far toward vapid. The fumbling women of RHONY could use a Julia.
3. Stunning Aesthetics
From the high production value (shoutout Peacock) to the scenery to the outfits, RHOM knows what we want, what we need! Give us more split-screens with colorful overlays while the women prepare for nights out. And don't even get us started on the fashions — the kind of resort wear-chic that the women of RHONJ only wish they could pull off at the shore. The whole series is a colorful explosion from Alexia's red lip to Adriana's bold ensembles. And don't forget Larsa's fishnet looks!
2. Nothing Is Off-Limits
The women of Miami are unafraid to "mention it all," as New York Housewife Bethenny Frankel would say. You will not find Potomac's Robyn Dixon (who hid behind a podcast paywall to avoid sharing her personal life with fans) here! These ladies have told us about their miscarriages and the loss of their children. We've followed Alexia as her teenage son recovers from a tragic car accident; we've stuck by Lisa's side as her marriage with Lenny disintegrates. These are not the "I told you so, LuAnn" women of New York City. The emotion these women share with viewers and the support they offer each other is really what we want from any Housewives franchise. Contrary to what critics may say, Housewives is at its best when the women achieve a balance between the glamour, the glitz and the catty with the real, the raw and the emotional. All of that plus Larsa's unabashed love for OnlyFans? We can't get enough! More feet pics, please!
1. Real Friendships
These women have been friends and running in the same circles since even before the early seasons that aired 10 years ago on Bravo. With RHOM, we have a unique opportunity to watch (and understand) deep, complex relationships without experiencing the kind of fatigue that comes from watching 10 years of the same old show (RHOC, we're looking at you). The bonds are real, and the hangouts feel organic. Miami is no Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, a franchise where filming feels like work and the "friendships" resemble the kind of stagnant relationships you might have with a coworker. This is a real-life docusoap!
