Which Book Is Season 3 Based On?
Reacher Season 1 was based on Killing Floor, Lee Child’s 1997 debut novel/first Jack Reacher tale, and had a Feb. 4, 2022 binge release. The second season, based on Bad Luck and Trouble — the 11th book in the Jack Reacher series — streamed Dec. 15, 2023 through Jan. 19, 2024.
Season 3, series star Alan Ritchson announced Jan. 24 on Instagram, will adapt Persuader, the seventh of Lee Child’s Reacher novels, set in Maine.
“Ten years ago, a key investigation went sour and someone got away with murder. Now a chance encounter brings it all back,” an Amazon synopsis for the book tells us. “Now Reacher sees his one last shot. Some would call it vengeance. Some would call it redemption. Reacher would call it… justice.”
Officially, though, Prime Video sums up Season 3 thusly: “Reacher must go undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past.”
“It’s going to be awesome,” showrunner Nick Santora told TVLine ahead of the source material’s reveal. “I think it might be my favorite story all three seasons.”
Said story will return the series to its “solo” Reacher format, whereas Season 2 reunited the hulking nomad with his team. As Santora told The Messenger, “We felt we needed a book that was more Reacher alone for the third season.”
What’s more, “We get to enjoy Reacher in a new world,” series lead Alan Ritchson told ComicBook.com. “It may not have anything to do with family, with his past, he’s just living that adventure out.”
Season 3 is also “crustier than ever,” Ritchson teased with the Instagram photo above.

I really hope it is Reacher alone, but Deadline’s article says Neagley will be back yet again, which would be disappointing. The point of the character is that he’s a lone wolf type.
Yes, the Neagley confirmation has been added.
Reacher being a Lone Wolf is a good point but the crew with him in Season 2 was absolutely outstanding. Serinda Swan is a treasure and her presence in any show makes that show a good one.
Very happy that Neagly is back. She is the glue that holds Reacher together.
A really great show. One of my all-time faves. Can’t wait for Season Three.
Why does Reacher (either the character or the show) need glue to hold him or it together?
Having someone who knows reacher makes exposition for OTHER characters easy. In books, the hero’s internal monolog gives out all the relevant details, but that doesn’t work in TV. So they need someone who knows things to tell the other folks those things.

Neagley appears or rather pops up in a lot of the Reacher novels. I read this one and I’m pretty sure it’s a cameo. He has like no resources so yeah, she’s usually his go-to. I’m glad the showrunners are keeping close to the novels, lone wolf is an understatement for Jack Reacher!
Neagley was in season 1, too. It was a small role and I think it’d be best if it were like that. The actress and character are fine, but season 1 had a much better dynamic that they’d be best returning to. If they want some connection to past seasons, having Neagley be it for a couple episodes is fine. Finlay was in S2 and that was fun.
So is James Bond, but Felix Leiter, M, Q and Moneypenny are always there for him when needed.
I enjoyed Reacher having help for the second season. I really liked those characters of the 110th, so I am glad Neagley will be back. I wish Prime would go back to the binge-release. The action-packed second season sort of lost something having to wait week-to-week for a new episode. Or, that could just be my impatience. Netflix ruined me forever. I like my binge-release series.
I prefer the weekly release model, but Prime does have a different release schedule for each show – sometimes they’ll release the first few episodes than go weekly or they’ll do 2-3 episodes weekly at a time. It just depends on the show. Weekly drops also produce more conversations and it stays with you longer than the full drop, binge and move on to the next show model.

I would still like to know why TVLine continues to promote the shows on Friday when episodes will get released Thursdays @ 8pm?
I fully agree that the shows that get released weekly get more talk (and more time to discuss it) and seem to stick better with me. I just really like the binge-release, even though I’m hurting myself in the long run with the story, since I am bound to forget things. I can always go back and rewatch, as I tend to do on my favorite series.
I was able to watch the episodes on Thursdays at 4 P.M.
It’s released at once worldwide, so 4 PM means you’re a US West Coaster. It came out at 7 PM in EST. No idea what area is one hour east of EST.
I waited until the finale was released before binge watching, and I’m glad I did. (Even though it was a bit hard to hold off viewing.)
Was hoping for 61 Hours, but I’ll take it!
They’ll probs need someone from WWE for Paulie though!!
OMG, me too! Fingers crossed they can give us a few more seasons aka a few more of the novels!
I love Reacher, I hope it lasts a long time. Alan Ritchson is fantastic and great to look at.
All I can say is YAY!!! Applause to everyone bringing these novels to life!
I have read all the Reacher books and enjoyed them all except the most recent. And IMO season 1 was so much better than season 2.
Can’t wait for season three!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi, where in Maine is this being filmed? I happen to from there and curious. Thanks so much.
It’s being filmed in Canada. In and around the Toronto area.
Season 2 was disappointing as far as I concern. The acting was stiff and forced. Not sure how long they’re going to go with this tree trunk with poor acting abilities. Not sure I’m staying with this.
His acting was quite good in both Seasons, Alan Ritchson nails the portrayal of a walking tank that lowkey wears his heart on his sleeve and has a hard time processing the most vulnerable of loses. Anyone that saw the show knows that: when he remembered his brother in S1 and each time that he dealt with the regret of not staying in touch with his former teammates before it was too late.
Alan Ritchson certainly knows how to act. (To get an idea of just how good he is as a comic actor, for example, see The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.) He plays Reacher as the role is written, and I can’t imagine anyone doing it better. The writing itself doesn’t always work for me, but that’s another matter.
.
You’re entitled to your opinion, and I won’t say this is what you’re doing here, but I’ve often noticed that people tend to stereotype actors who have a striking physical appearance. He’s a big, muscular guy, so he can’t act; she’s curvy, so she must be merely decorative. Not true of Ritchson, not true of Chris Hemsworth, not true of Helen Mirren, and not true of Marilyn Monroe.
If you had ever read any of the novels you’d know that Ritchson’s acting is PERFECT for the Reacher character……. he is playing a character, that’s not Ritchson who is “stiff”…. that IS Reacher.
Is that the Anthony Michael Hall that got charged for assaulting a neighbor?
Wasn’t expecting to see Brian Tee as the main antagonist and going by the description of being physically imposing it almost sounds like he could give Reacher a run for his money. :O Can’t wait for the Persuader Season arc!
Oliver Richters is the main adversary, not Brian Tee.
Richters is 9 inches taller and 10 inches wider at the shoulders than Ritchson.
Correction…. Ritchson’s Reacher is 6′ 5″ (though Ritchson’s actual height is 6’2″).
Oliver Richters is 7’4″ so in the series Richters will stand 11 inches taller (but is actually 14 inches taller in real life).
I honestly can’t wait to see the next season!!
I finished reading the book and it was a little disturbing.
