HONORABLE MENTION: Alex Borstein

Five seasons and two Emmys later, Alex Borstein still has a few tricks up her sleeve with regard to her portrayal of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s foul-mouthed, supremely loyal manager Susie Myerson. Case in point: In this week’s stunningly inventive, riotously funny and profoundly poignant episode, much of which centered on Susie being a begrudging guest of honor at a circa-1990 Friars Club roast, Borstein was tasked with playing Susie through multiple decades amid some extreme emotional highs and lows. And there was nary a false note in her work. The actress’ brilliantly restrained, subtle reaction shots as her alter ego gamely weathered blow after blow at the roast were comedy gold. The explosion of anger Borstein-as-Susie unleashed toward Midge during their synagogue-set showdown was imbued with perfectly modulated cornered-rat desperation and regret. And, in the episode’s final moments, the look of tearful relief on Borstein’s face when Midge extended Susie that olive branch spoke volumes of the deep love she has for her best friend.
This has to be Alex Emmy submission right or something from ‘Susan’ so many scenes to pick from but as much as I’m not vibing with the writing of S5. It has been Alex’s season to bring it and she has!!
Love seeing Rodriguez and Borstein here. I predicted them this week. I don’t watch Barry or Succession. Bummed to not see Juno Temple from Ted Lasso. She was excellent and a stand out for me this week as well.
I feel the same, not yet having watched the others to comment on them but definitely feeling Rodriquez and Borstein were very deserving to be here. The thoughts of Emmy nom for Ramon entered my mind though I know he’d be a longshot; Borstein will likely at least get a nom and if there is any justice she’ll be joined by Juno Temple who I also agree deserves to be here. How she reacted to how others reacted, from joy at a genuine friend in Rebecca to holding her tongue yet you see the hurt and disappointment with others, to those final moments with Jamie… she was heartbreakingly brilliant throughout.
Honorable mention: Colin the dog from AMLT. throughout the episode he showed desperate devotion, loyalty and a final sadness knowing his best friend was gone…then add the entire cast for their beautiful performances (I know each would’ve been mentioned previously, but they deserved it this week again).
Kudos to Ramon too! Well deserved!
Who’s a good boy? Just one of several highlights of a perfect series finale.
This…
Agree 100%
Richly deserved for Ramon Rodriguez. In an ideal world,, he’d be up for an Emmy. Great work all season.
I’d vote for him!
Agreed. In a time when network series were still given consideration for Emmys, Rodriguez and the series would both be up for awards this year.
But it’s just so difficult for network shows to break through anymore — for instance, Ghosts — that we just have to settle for knowing such worthy shows can still exist outside the cable/streaming world
He’s so wonderful. I felt like giving Will a hug throughout the entire finale. I’m so glad this fantastic show has been renewed.
I am so happy that Will Trent was renewed! Ramon Rodriguez is my favorite actor of the freshmen shows this TV season. I can’t wait for season two. Also, Anthony Carrigan’s NoHo Hank is the epitome of the phrase “still waters run deep”. How has this dude not won an Emmy?
Will Trent was amazing and he knocked it out of the park!
Will Trent is a great show. Ramon Rodriguez is amazing as Will.
Ramon Rodriguez is taking Will Trent to new heights. This is a seriously high caliber show and I hope it goes very far. His performance had me all wimpy and teary.
Hey, if Grey’s Anatomy can go 19 seasons…know what I’m saying!!!
Rodriquez was amazing. Will Trent is my favorite new show, due to it’s star, all the actors, and the drama and humor of each story….and Betty.
Betty <3
Glad to see Alex here! Her and Reid Scott have been my favourites this season.
Ramon Rodriguez had me from his first scene. His performance was magnificent. Will Trent is probably my favorite show.
Ramon Rodriguez he did Steller work all season long. He along with Erika Christensen along with Will partner Faith played by Iantha Richardson and Amanda played by Sonja John. And Betty.
Best TV show in years/True Grit from all of the cast!
Where’s Sophie Nélisse for Yellowjackets? She was tremendous in S2E6 Qui
Technically hasn’t aired on television yet.
Ramon Rodriquez
Alex deserved performer of the week and Juno Temple deserved an honorable mention
I am so glad you picked Ramon Rodriguez as POTW. He delivered a powerful, breathtaking performance, sometimes while holding a tiny Chihuahua, which made it all the more impressive.
Well deserved for all. Excellent picks!
Ramon is one of the BEST actors and he deserves all the awards.
Two words: thank you…delivered so powerfully.
He is fun to watch in interviews as his personality and humor shine through.
I want 22 episodes next season please!!!!
I absolutely love Ramon’s interviews – especially when he discusses his family members in Puerto Rico. He’s just adorable! And such an extraordinary actor!
The acting on Will Trent is stellar. I think the writing could be a little smoother. It’s good; I just feel sometimes that storylines come out of nowhere. I don’t think there was a plan for how the season would unfold. Thankfully there is a 2nd season for them to continue to improve.
Will Trent is, without any doubt, one of the best shows on TV. This episode was so moving that I actually cried, He is a great actor and deserves accolades for his performance every week.
Borstein, Carrigan and Smith-Cameron are all great choices for the week!
I loved Will Trent and Ramon Rodriquez from the first show. I knew this was a show I would love and it certainly is. I look forward to seeing Ramon and company every week, even the reruns. And of course I adore Betty. What a little sweetheart. This is a well deserved honor for Ramon Rodriquez. And here’s to ABC for giving us season 2. Please keep the show alive and keep those new seasons coming!
Will Trent is an outstanding show. it as amazing watching Ramon’s his performance. Great cast overall
I started watching Will Trent because of sweet Betty (I have two Chihuahua’s). It began to grow on me and now I love the show AND, of course, Betty!
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOVE WILL TRENT NUMBER A PLUS
I totally agree Emmy voters I hope you were watching not only this episode but the entire season he was fabulous every single episode. Let’s see. I would love to see an episodic TV actor get a nod this time around. As they are been ignored for way too long.
The ending of Will Trent was emotional. Will finding out the truth.
