Obi-Wan Kenobi: Everything To Know

If you're sensing a disturbance in the Force, that's probably the palpable excitement surrounding Obi-Wan Kenobi, which premieres this May. Here's everything we know so far about Disney+'s latest Star Wars series.

Ewan McGregor headlines the six-episode limited series as the beloved Jedi Master, who's been on the run after being branded a traitor to the Galactic Empire. The show will reunite McGregor with Hayden Christensen, who will again suit up as Darth Vader aka Anakin Skywalker.

Set after the events of 2005's Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, in which Obi-Wan defeated Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar, the series finds its title character hiding out from the Imperial Inquisitors sent to apprehend him (and all surviving Jedi following their mass execution under Order 66, as depicted in Revenge of the Sith).

While Obi-Wan went into seclusion on Tatooine, Anakin rose to power within the Empire, as Vader. The official trailer teases a long-awaited face-to-face between the Jedi Master and his former apprentice, which you can check out here.

As we gear up for new episodes arriving this month, here's everything you need to know about Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere its first two episodes on Friday, May 27, putting it up against Stranger Things' long-delayed fourth season. New episodes will be released every Wednesday thereafter, with the finale set for June 22.

Set 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, the story centers on Obi-Wan, who "faced his greatest defeat — the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader," per the official description.

Although Obi-Wan exiled himself to Tatooine to watch over a young Luke Skywalker (played in the series by Grant Feely), the series will also see him visit other places, including a planet new to Star Wars canon called Daiyu.

Writer and executive producer Joby Harold has described Daiyu as having a "Hong Kong feel" to it. "It's got a graffiti-ridden nightlife and is kind of edgy," he previously told Entertainment Weekly. "It's just got a different lane and a different feeling."

The series will feature members of the Inquisitorius, an organization tasked with hunting down the remaining Jedi and consisting of force-sensitive agents who serve the Galactic Empire.

The cast for Obi-Wan Kenobi will include:

♦ Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. McGregor explained to Total Film that he got "as much, or more, out of playing him this time than I did in the first three movies put together," due to "the writing, and the people we were making the series with, and the technology, and how different everything is." In fact, the Scotsman is down to play Obi-Wan again if given the chance. "I'd be totally up for that," he added.

♦ Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. Director Deborah Chow told Entertainment Weekly that Vader we'll see in the series "isn't the New Hope Vader quite yet... It is still Vader, obviously, but it's a Vader that isn't quite as fully formed as A New Hope."

♦ Rupert Friend (Homeland, Anatomy of a Scandal) as the Grand Inquisitor, the Empire's highest-ranking Inquisitor. Fans will recognize the character from Star Wars Rebels, where he was voiced by Jason Isaacs.

♦ Sung Kang (Fast & Furious franchise, Power) as Fifth Brother, who in Star Wars canon was a former Jedi who survived Order 66 before joining the Inquisitorius. Voiced by Philip Anthony-Rodriguez in Star Wars Rebels, he and Seventh Sister were sent by Darth Vader to find the Ghost crew and bring them to justice.

♦ Moses Ingram (The Queen's Gambit) as Inquisitor Reva aka the Third Sister, a new character created for the series who will "contribute to the legacy of Star Wars villains in a really interesting way" per writer and executive producer Joby Harold. Ingram has described the character as a "boss" who is "on a mission and will conquer that at all costs when given the opportunity."

♦ Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse will reprise their prequel trilogy roles as young Luke Skywalker's Uncle Owen Lars and Aunt Beru.

Additional cast includes Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals, Silicon Valley), Simone Kessell (The Crossing), Maya Erskine (PEN15), O'Shea Jackson Jr., Uncut Gems director Benny Safdie, and Grant Feely (Creepshow) as Luke Skywalker.

Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian, Better Call Saul) executive-produced and directed all six episodes.

Joby Harold wrote the series and served as an executive producer.

Star Wars composer John Williams wrote the main theme, and Natalie Holt (Loki) composed the score for all six episodes.

Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan and Ewan McGregor round out the EPs.
