TVLINE | When you received the official “final season” news, was there anything you had to adjust, any planned storylines you decided to contract or just scrap?
R. SCOTT GEMMILL | No, because we really didn’t know how we were going to end the season. And so a lot of it, like Kensi getting pregnant, that was something we probably wouldn’t have done otherwise. And we probably wouldn’t have had Callen getting married this season, we would have probably prolonged that.
TVLINE | Oh, I assumed the wedding was always your season finale.
I think we sort of thought about it, but we hadn’t committed to anything.
The only thing we didn’t really get to was, we’d started a storyline with Kilbride and his son and I’m sorry we didn’t really get to see that realized. But there was only so much we could jam in towards the end.
I cried so much at Hetty’s note!! She loves her family so much.
Maybe someday we’ll get a movie of sorts showing the rescue mission.
Thank you to TV Line for covering this show so well over the years.
Cbs needs to do 2 hours similar to CSI series final to tie Hetty story, it’s bummer to leave the 14 season show with a cliffhanger.
Unfortunately they pretty mush told us what’s gonna happen and we knew jetty wouldn’t return nor would they go save her , but it’s set up to happen …. CBS did them dirty and so did the writers for this cast
Given the circumstances, I thought they did a great job ending the series. Adjusting the entire final arc of the season to fit a series finale isn’t easy, but it worked really well.
Good decision to have Sabatino, Nell and Nate there. Ended the series with a laugh/smile.
Whoa, Nell(y), that was a great ending!!
A save Hetty movie would be great.
I agree!
100% 👍
I loved this show. Watched it from the beginning and will miss the actors, the characters, story lines and just the whole show in general. Well done ❤️🇨🇦
I will as well. Watching NCIS: LA became as comforting as a warm blanket for me on Sunday nights, and its going to be missed.
Will miss the show the actors. Wish I had known it was the last. . Good luck to everyone. Will be missed
Thry have known forever this was the last season. Could have done more and better. The last half of the episode looked rushed and cobbled together.
They didn’t have as much time as you think. They wrapped filming a little over a month after it was officially canceled. Safe to say that a lot of the back half of the season was already mapped out/written. You could tell just by watching the last 4-5 episodes that they altered things to fit the series being canceled.

Why did you end my favorite show. If you would have left it as more of a spy show like it was at the beginning not like this lady hear or two you would still be on TB
I agree Yvonne. It changed from action and “NCIS” to more of a soap opera for lack of a better analogy. The show slowed down. It is as if the show was tired. It picked up with the three show combination. I will miss the show, the characters and Monty.
I have to address the followup show. It was wonderful hearing each actor talk about their characters etc. BUT nobody really addressed Linda Hunt. The relationship between Hefty and Callen .was so strong that I really expected Chris to talk about her. I was disappointed
As popular as this show was, I can’t believe it was taken off. There was so much more that could have happened & it seems like they left a hole for a comeback at some point!! I sure hope it happens!!
Maybe they’re going to transfer some characters to either NCIS or NCIS: Hawaii depending on how the stories shake out. Also Wilmer Valderrama is developing a Zorro TV Series for ABC and he’s also reprising Fez in That 90’s Show so Nick Torres might need to be written out of the Main JAG Spin-Off.
We were robbed!! They knew for months that the show was ending. If they could get Linda Hunt to do a voice over for Hetty, surely they could’ve recorded her on a burner phone or flash drive to be given to Callen. The rest of the show was nice. Happy about the wedding and especially Kenzi and Deeks baby news. Gonna miss the show. I pray that Ms. Hunt is doing well.
That really was her voice reading the note.
I think you missed the point that the note was written by Nell, as Hetty, to draw Callen & Sam to Morocco to help find Hetty.
Oh gosh, I must’ve missed that. I didn’t realize Nell wrote the letter. Had already deleted that ep from my dvr. but recovered it after I read your comment so I can rewatch.
Great series finale🙌👋! Yes a movie or another spin off involving the new team but including Sam & Callen would be great… I hate CBS for ending this show just like they did NCIS New Orleans Al these networks cancelling all this good tv will end up loosing their viewers if they don’t stop
I agree Angela, instead of canceling the show, they could have gone many ways with it. They are so big right now on reality TV or half-hour comedy series that no one cares about near as much as NCIS Los Angeles, why take off shows that have proven to be SO successful. It is shows like this that are called GOOD TV. This could have been one to go on for many MORE years, given the chance.
I agree… it remains the only series in the NCIS group that I actually purchased seasons to own on Amazon/Prime. The caliber of the award winning acting talent and imaginative writers may never been seen on network tv again.
Exactly! I agree with u 100%. Why do they have to take all the good shows off, and leave all the shows tht r not very good on. Take the shows tht stink, off, like Survivor. I don’t care for tht show, and never have. Leave NCIS LA on. Don’t take it off. There has to be, either an NCIS LA movie coming on, the way they left off, and left it a cliffhanger, or the show will be back on. They can’t take it off, it is to good a show. All the fans will be screaming, even me.
We are going to miss all of you guys. You were great people and great actors. May your future be even better.
A wonderful ending; While it would’ve been great to see how #Denzie handled pregnancy n work, Callen, Sam and Nell etc.s mission, I’m glad we know their stories continue and it leaves room for movies, reboots etc. I have been with them for 14 years and will miss the show.
I know if given the chance they could give a few more seasons but it’s good to go out on your own terms I guess on a high note.
Well done to the cast and crew, hope to see them all again someday
The after show special was great too!
Would have loved some quotes from Eric Christian Olsen about the finale and the show in general. Deeks was my favorite even though I hated how he was so often the butt of the joke.
First off, I’m upset NCIS LA was canceled & not happy with final episode. Seems like CBS always cancels shows I really like!
But, I am so sorry and don’t understand why you cancelled them!!’nn
Why did the series end? Couldn’t you’ve made it a 2 hour event? So tender sweet! Hardly watch regular tv programming anymore and this was one of four shows that we love!
I will miss the characters and warmth and the contagious humor! Thank you for paying homage to Hetty! Thank you for being true to her character! Thank you for thoughtfulness in explaining the depth of their respective relationships!
It is warm blanket in these dark times we r facing!
Loved the finale, especially the last bit, from Hetty’s letter all the way through. I really appreciate that the show didn’t end with Sam and Callen going their separate ways. Hope the NCIS mothership showrunners and writers take heed, when that show ends, that would be a great way to do it.
Thank you, TVLine for the coverage here, nice to know why Eric wasn’t on as well as the answers to other questions.
Thank you to everyone involved with NCIS:LA!
Didn’t really care. I quit watching NCIS LA when CBS moved the show to Sunday night. All shows CBS move to Sunday night get cancelled. So no surprise
Yeah, you are right, it did get cancelled when it moved to Sunday nights… some 6 and a half years later! ;) You seriously missed half the show’s lifespan because of the day it was on. Everything gets cancelled eventually. Why should a good show changing its timeslots in any way effect your ability to enjoy it. Especially when it like everything else is available to watch on-demand any time of the day anyway.

Watched from day one. Loved the ending. Bring on the movie!
Great episode but I really wanted to see Hetty at the wedding.
Was hoping she would waltz in as maid of honor wi to h anna
NCIS Los Angeles is a household name that visits my home on Sundays and during the week repeats, ion often. This show will be missed
Bravo to CBS and the writers. You gave us the ending the viewers deserved.
I liked the finale in general, but they left 2 major subplots unresolved.
1: David Kessler is still out there, and a danger to Kensi.
2: The “Body Stitchers” are still out doing their thing.
I really wish they had resolved those storylines.
You read my mind. I also wish those 2 storylines had been resolved
I was in tears, still cry.
Not only did I love NCIS: LA, I LOVE (ED) the cast (including The Writers (Please pay them), Creator (s), Producers) and everyone that made it possible for us tge fans to tuned in Religiously on Sunday night.
Thank you yo all….I fo believe you all will be back in some capacity….and I will be watching.
I LOVE you all, and I had fun with you sll the last 14 years….JJhoneybee!
Idea for a show. The best of Bellisario show. Form an international anti-terrorist team working in the shadows. Callan Sam Nell. Mac and Harm. Dinozzo and Ziva. Some NCIS NO vets. Eric could finance the whole thing.
Can bring in the best of guest star from all the series. Goldberg. Admiral Chegwiden. List is endless.
