Legacies Says Goodbye To [Spoiler] In Emotional Originals Reunion Episode — Here's Everything We Learned
Legacies certainly lived up to its name on Thursday, taking viewers back to New Orleans for a bittersweet reunion with characters we've known for more than a decade.
Thanks to a bit of astral projection, Hope suddenly found herself in the Big Easy, where all of Klaus' living siblings had come to pay their respects. That's right, as if the show's biggest Mikaelson gathering to date wasn't guaranteed to make us emotional enough, Legacies then sucker punched our hearts with an invitation to Klaus' funeral. Mission accomplished, heartbreak achieved.
But the show wasn't done ripping us to pieces, not even close. Rebekah explained that Freya used magic to "Humpty Dumpty" Klaus' ashes back together, then placed them in an urn donning his iconic necklace. And who was given the honor of selecting Klaus' final resting place? Why, his daughter, of course.
With first-time Legacies visitors Marcel and Kol (and Percival!) thrown into the mix, it was a gut-wrenching hour, a celebration of everything this family has been through... and a cautionary tale of what will happen if Hope doesn't restore her humanity ASAP.
Before we break down everything we learned about the Mikaelson clan, here's a quick recap of what everyone else got up to this week:
* Lizzie and Aurora formed a temporary alliance with Ben, but when Jen warned them that her half-brother would do anything to get Ashur back, including waking their hot-but-evil father (which he is doing!), Lizzie had the distinct feeling that she screwed up. This brought her back to the Salvatore School, albeit not under the happiest of circumstances.
* Alaric shaved his beard! I mean, he also received a magical pep talk from a vision of his younger self, but more importantly... he shaved his beard!
* Kaleb treated Cleo to a pancake-filled getaway in Atlanta, where he also hoped to figure out what was happening to her powers. What they got was a horrifying vision of the future, complete with the destruction of Mystic Falls. Her conclusion? They need to stop those gods from coming. Too bad the episode literally ended with Ben releasing his aforementioned hot-but-evil father.
Grade the episode below, then read on for all of the updates we got about the Mikaelson family, including commentary courtesy of TVLine's chat with Charles Michael Davis.
Vincent Remains in the Fold
It's comforting, but not entirely surprising, to hear that the "potion" donor for Freya and Keelin's baby slash former vessel for Finn's soul remains very much in the Mikaelsons' orbit.
As Rebekah explained to a confused Hope at the top of the hour, she was appearing via astral projection, courtesy of Vincent.
"Vincent is anchoring the spell, so while your body may be intangible, we are in fact in New Orleans," she told her niece. "And everything that's happening here is very real."
Hope Could Have a Baby Someday
Neither Keelin nor baby Nik have appeared on Legacies yet, but at least the latter got a shout-out (of sorts) this week.
"You're scared," Hope told Freya. "Isn't that why you didn't bring the little rugrat with you?" That's right, I'm counting that as a shout-out.
That said, Hope's off-the-cuff comment about Nik led to a surprising conversation about Hope's own maternal prospects.
"I named my child after [Klaus] for a reason," Freya said. "And the name he gave you has meaning, too. Maybe you'll understand that if you ever choose to become a parent." Both Freya and Rebekah seem to believe that, just as Hayley was able to conceive Hope, the tribrid's unique powers may enable her to do the same someday.
Marcel and Rebekah Are Married!
#Marbekah forever!
Marcel and Rebekah got engaged in the closing moments of The Originals' 2018 series finale, but she didn't even mention his name when she visited Legacies earlier this season, leading many fans to fear that the relationship fizzled out.
Fortunately, these words from Marcel to Rebekah this week cleared everything up: "Don't look at me like that, baby. You were the one that was foolish enough to marry me."
And when Rebekah found out that Marcel tricked Hope into sticking around longer, she told him, "I knew you were the man for me."
When TVLine asked Davis if he had any doubt that Marcel and Rebekah would make it to the altar, he admitted, "Well, yeah. On The Originals, for their dynamic to work, they always needed to have some tension. They were always being torn apart. It was nice to just relax and let them be a couple for this episode. No screaming, no fighting, it was easy."
Klaus Is Coming Back to Mystic Falls!
None of Klaus' siblings could decide where to scatter his ashes, so they left the decision up to his daughter.
"He saw the entire world and chose to make New Orleans his home," Hope said. "But it was Mystic Falls before that, and he built a school for me so I'd have one, too. So if it were up to the person that I used to be, I'd want him with me so that I could find the perfect spot."
Kol Hasn't Screwed Things Up With Davina Yet
"Davina was gutted she couldn't come" to Klaus' funeral, according to Kol, which means that #Kolvina is still going strong.
He then suggested that he and Davina "could pay a visit" to Mystic Falls, so maybe there's still hope for a cameo from Danielle Campbell down the line.
Elijah's Suits Remain in Excellent Condition
Klaus' brother may not have gotten his own televised funeral, but at least we know what became of his spectacular wardrobe.
"You look silly in that suit," Hope told Marcel when she saw him in town, to which he replied, "Thanks. It's one Elijah's old ones."
For the record, Davis assures TVLine that the suit wasn't actually one worn by Daniel Gillies.
"I've got broader shoulders, a thinner waist and longer legs," he says with a laugh. "No way."
