April showers bring… the end of Grace and Frankie.
Netflix announced on Tuesday that the long-running comedy starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin will release its final 12 episodes on Friday, April 29. (The farewell run’s first four episodes were dropped back in mid-August, to tide over patient fans.)
What will the final salvo of 12 episodes look like?
“Seven years ago, Grace and Frankie’s lives turned upside down when their longtime husbands left them for… each other,” a synopsis from the streamer reminds us. “Both sparring partners and partners-in-crime, Grace and Frankie formed an unlikely and unbreakable bond as they faced uncertain futures head-on, and hand-in-hand. They’ve laughed together, cried together, did shrooms together, and twice-over became successful entrepreneurs together.
“A history-making 94 episodes later, Grace and Frankie continue to show themselves, their families, and their fans what it means to live life to the fullest, fearlessly and unapologetically,” the overview continues. “Here’s to seven seasons of laughs, tears, mood-enhancers, and good vibes. And, as Grace and Frankie would say, [f–k] it. This may be their final chapter, but they’re just getting started.”
Series creators Marta Kauffman & Howard J. Morris penned the series finale, which is title “The Beginning,” with Kauffman also directing the closer.
With its final season, Grace and Frankie makes Netflix history as the streaming giant’s longest-running original series ever (out of both comedy and drama), by amassing 94 total episodes.
