The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony were held, virtually, on Sunday evening, broadcast on ABC and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
Schitt’s Creek set multiple records by amassing nine total wins, the most for any comedy in one year (besting Mrs. Maisel‘s previous record of eight). That was due in large part to it sweeping all of the major awards — including all four major acting categories — both of which no comedy has done before.
That said, Watchmen wound up leading the TV pack with 11 total wins, including Outstanding Limited Series or Movie. Trailing that and Schitt’s Creek, Succession (which won Outstanding Drama Series) and The Mandalorian followed with seven wins each.
By outlet, though HBO trailed Netflix in total nominations this year, the pay cabler wound up with more gold on its mantel — amassing 30 wins to the streaming giant’s 21. Buoyed by Schitt’s Creek‘s success, Pop TV placed third with 10 total wins.
NBC was the winningest broadcast network, claiming eight prizes — that same number as upstart Disney+.
TVLine has denoted Sunday’s winners below, in the order they were announced.
