Matt's Inside Line: Scoop On NCIS: Sydney, Little House, Criminal Minds, Countdown, Ghosts, Resident Alien, Marvel Assembled And More!
How will Voit stay of use to the Criminal Minds? Did Little House on the Prairie forget a li'l one? What mystery might Ghosts solve next? Read on for answers to those questions and others! (You can and should email any brand-new Qs to InsideLine@tvline.com.)
Any early NCIS: Sydney Season 3 news? –Lara
In addition to the Sydney Opera House cameo that Inside Line previously scooped, I can confirm at least one other, very Australian Season 3 destination — one that conjures images of franchised steakhouses and Mac Scorpio's bar. "Australia is a big-ass country," showrunner Morgan O'Neill noted during our most recent chat. "It's almost as big as the U.S., and we have 25 million people [versus the United States' 340 mil], so it's sparsely populated and vast. So if I said to you that we're going to head to the Outback [in Season 3], that probably wouldn't surprise you."
Is Carrie Ingalls being retconned out of existence in Netflix's Little House on the Prairie reboot? –Larry
Far from it; sources confirm for me that when the series opens, Carrie (played on the OG series by Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush) simply has not been born yet.
With the June 25 premiere of Countdown fast approaching, is there anything you can share? –Adder
Anything...? How about this: Days of Our Lives icon Mary Beth Evans pops up at one point in the Prime Video thriller's 13-episode season as a main character's mother. Bonus Anything: Episode 10 will throw you for a loop, and for multiple reasons.
The finale of Criminal Minds Season 18 is titled "The Disciple," which gets mentioned in Episode 5 in reference to the Brutal Man. Can we get a hint? –Lynn
Let's just say that this Thursday's episode begins to elevate the importance of said Disciple — and both raise (and possibly answer?) some questions about this individual's modus operandi. Oh, and you better brace yourself for this week's closing seconds.
I saw that Zach Gilford wasn't in the Criminal Minds: Evolution cast photo for the start of Season 19. Might we finally be free of Voit next season? –Monica
Actually, Gilford is confirmed to stick around for another season, though it sounds like you may now be wondering why. When I asked Season 18 addition Aimee Garcia about what might keep The Man Formerly Known as Sicarius around for another cycle, she teased, "Let's just say that Voit is a beloved character in the same way that Tony Soprano and Dexter" — whom Garcia knows all to well! — "were antiheroes that we loved. Voit went from an antihero that we love to a possible key to helping dissuade other antiheroes, so he may be hard to get rid of."
Why haven't we seen any trailers for the new series premiering this fall, as we have in the past? – Peter
Well, Boston Blue (CBS' Blue Bloods offshoot), CIA (CBS' FBI offshoot) and 9-1-1: Nashville (ABC's... you know where I'm going with this) were all greenlit before a single frame was filmed (or sets were even built).... We already pretty much know what CBS' Sheriff Country is.... And the CBS sitcom DMV did release a teaser. Everything else that's new for fall is unscripted.
Any fun scoop on our favorite aliens or humans in [Resident Alien's] Patience, Col.? –Susan
In this Friday's episode, someone from Harry's past returns to drop a huge bombshell... but Harry's reaction to said visitor may not be what you'd expect.
Why on Earth are Syfy and USA airing Resident Alien at 11 pm, on Friday nights? Do they want no one to watch? Or do they just assume anyone who wants to will DVR it anyway? –Dave
Actually, by airing it on USA Network after the well-watched, three-hour Friday Night SmackDown, the idea is to get more people to sample/watch the Alan Tudyk-led comedy (or, as you said, nudge them to at least DVR it).
Will the new all-Westerns network, WEST, be on Frndly TV? –Greg
I asked around for you and the complete distribution situation is still being finalized. I'd expect further news, and a launch timetable, to be announced later this summer.
Any updates on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy? –Joey
Production on Season 2 of the Paramount+ series (greenlit back in October) is already ramping up, to begin filming later this year — and it's a safe bet that there will be some big Season 1 news coming out of Hall H at next month's San Diego Comic-Con.
Any news on The Artful Dodger Season 2? –Chelsea
Season 2 only recently wrapped filming on location in Sydney, Australia, so we don't have a Disney+ release date just yet.
Whatever happened to Amazon's Making the Cut with Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn? It was renewed for Season 4 and Amazon had a premiere date posted for it at one time, but it never aired. Has this one been put back on the rack? –Adam
Actually, I'm finding no evidence of Making the Cut being "renewed for Season 4." Also, Klum is now hosting Freeform's Project Runway reboot, and Making the Cut last aired almost three years ago. Now, I was never much good at math, but.... (Prime Video has not responded to multiple inquiries about Making the Cut's official status.)
On Ghosts, I feel like the only big remaining question is, "How did Sas die?" Is that something that will be answered next season? —Ellen
Co-showrunner Joe Wiseman says that lingering Q will "very likely" at long last be answered in Season 5 of the CBS hitcom. "We're not promising, but it is something we've talked about a lot," he elaborated.
"It does seem like every season, we reveal some of the big mysteries — what their powers are, and how they died — and as you mentioned, I think the last one is Sas' death, so... probably."
I just read the following article and it says that the final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty is dropping all 11 episodes on July 16, which is huge. Is that confirmed? –Gia
Gah, that was a typo, now fixed. (As more recently noted here, Prime Video, for reasons, has yet to announce the release pattern for TSITP's farewell run.)
Do you know if there will be more Marvel Studios: Assembled episodes? I don't recall seeing any for Thunderbolts* or [Captain America:] Brave New World, and I love seeing all the production work that goes into these projects. –Matt
I love me a Marvel Studios: Assembled episode, too; alas, I'm hearing that there are no new episodes of the Disney+ franchise planned at this time.
I loved Matt Letscher on Georgie & Mandy as the auto shop's rival. Will we see more of him in Season 2, now that Georgie and Ruben have taken over the shop? –Dee
"Like Chris [Gorham, who plays Mandy's boss Scott], it'd be lovely to have him back," series co-creator/showrunner Steve Holland tells TVLine. "It would be nice to have an antagonist [for Georgie and Ruben to] butt up against, and Matt's so great [as Fred Fagenbacher]. He's the antagonist in our show, and he always plays it with a bit of a smile on his face, and a little of that Southern, bless-your-heart, knife-in-your-back kind of charm, which I think is great."
I was wondering about renewal or cancelation for House of Villains and Claim to Fame. –Chris
As recently reported, House of Villains Season 3 will premiere on E! in 2026 with the following cast: Paul Abrahamian (Big Brother), Tyson Apostol (Survivor), Kate Chastain (Below Deck), Jackie Christie (Basketball Wives), Drita D'Avanzo (Mob Wives), Plane Jane (RuPaul's Drag Race), Johnny Middlebrooks (Love Island), Ashley Mitchell (The Challenge), Tiffany "New York" Pollard (I Love New York), Christine Quinn (Selling Sunset) and Tom Sandoval (Vanderpump Rules). As for Claim to Fame... see my recurring mantra re: unscripted ABC shows.
