To play is human, to rewind binge is divine.
Netflix on Friday announced that Blockbuster — a new workplace comedy set at the last Blockbuster Video store in America — will drop all 10 episodes on Thursday, Nov. 3.
Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat) and Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) star in the single-camera sitcom that “explores what it takes — and, more specifically, who it takes — for a small business to succeed against all odds,” according to the official logline.
Park plays Timmy Yoon, “an analog dreamer living in a 5G world.” After he discovers that he is operating the nation’s last standing Blockbuster Video, “Timmy and his staff — including his long time crush, Fumero’s Eliza Walker — fight to stay relevant. The only way to succeed is to remind their community that they provide something big corporations can’t: human connection.”
Fumero’s Eliza, meanwhile, is described as “a dedicated mother whose marriage to her high school sweetheart is on the rocks. She left Harvard after one semester to start a family and now works at Blockbuster alongside Timmy as his trusty No. 2… and maybe more.”
The series, which was created by fellow Brooklyn Nine-Nine vet Vanessa Ramos, also stars Tyler Alvarez (Never Have I Ever) as Carlos Herrera, Madeleine Arthur (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before) as Hannah Hadman, Olga Merediz (In the Heights) as Connie Serrano, JB Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm) as Percy Scott and Kamaia Fairburn (Holly Hobbie) as Kayla Scott.
Additional writers/EPs include David Caspe (Happy Endings, Black Monday) and Jackie Clarke (Superstore, Happy Endings).
