Lena Headey Sci-Fi Drama Beacon 23 Lands New Home On MGM+ — Get Release Date And See First-Look Photos
After a number of delays, Game of Thrones veteran Lena Headey is finally blasting off into outer space... but now she'll be launching from a different location.
Headey's sci-fi drama Beacon 23 has been picked up by MGM+, TVLine has learned, with a premiere date set for Sunday, Nov. 12 at 9/8c. The eight-episode thriller was originally ordered by Spectrum Originals in November 2020, with a second airing planned for AMC, but Spectrum Originals shut down last year, leaving upcoming projects like Beacon 23 in limbo.
Headey stars as Aster, a government agent who finds herself trapped alongside ex-military man Halan (played by Homecoming's Stephan James) inside a "Beacon" that serves as a lighthouse for intergalactic travelers. "Aster mysteriously finds her way to the lonely Beacon-keeper Halan, and a tense battle of wills unfolds," per the official description. "Halan begins to question whether Aster is friend or foe, as her ability to disguise her agenda and motives could make her a formidable opponent."
Based on the bestselling novel by Hugh Howey, Beacon 23 is created by Zak Penn (Free Guy, Ready Player One), with Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead) joining Penn as an executive producer.
"Beacon 23 is a series in the best tradition of thought-provoking genre storytelling," MGM+ head Michael Wright said in a statement. "With the incredible vision of Zak Penn and Glen Mazzara, riveting performances by Lena Headey and Stephan James, and an exciting world-building design, Beacon 23 is essential viewing for fans of premium science-fiction drama."
