AGT: All-Stars Premiere Ends With Shocking Superfan Save — Watch
Ten of the most memorable acts in Talent history came together on Monday to kick off AGT: All-Stars, but only two would survive the series premiere — and probably not the two you expected.
Those ten international acts — acrobatic trio The Bello Sisters, young poet Aneeshwar Kunchala, singer/songwriter Caly Bevier, comedic mentalist Lioz, singer Jeanick Fournier, Light Balance Kids, beat-boxing group Berywam, aerialist Alan Silva, singer Jimmie Herrod and ventriloquist Terry Fator — were each given a second chance to impress the judges, as well as a committee of "superfans" for those two coveted slots.
Despite the look of absolute shock on Simon Cowell's face, we can't say we were surprised when Howie Mandel smashed the season's first Golden Buzzer for Light Balance Kids. Not only did they deliver an exciting performance, but with several of their members unable to participate due to the Russo-Ukrainian War (in which one member's father is currently fighting), it was a lovely show of support.
For us, the big surprise of Episode 1 came from the superfans. Read on to watch the auditions and see how the fans' votes shook out, then weigh in with your picks from the premiere. Which acts should have made it through?
SAFE (GOLDEN BUZZER): Light Balance Kids
Mandel was so touched by these AGT Season 14 favorites — one of whom has a father currently fighting for Ukraine — that he gifted them with the Golden Buzzer, sending them straight through to the finale.
ELIMINATED: Alan Silva
Even though the superfans didn't vote in Silva's favor, it was still thrilling to watch the aerialist soar through the skies to The Greatest Showman's "This Is Me" (Kesha edition).
ELIMINATED: Aneeshwar Kunchala
After exposing Simon Cowell for putting chewing gum under the judges' panel on Britain's Got Talent, this poetic wildlife conservationist gave a moving speech about the devastating effects that humankind is having on the environment — from whales drowning in garbage to polar bears losing their lives to global warming. The fans were moved... just not moved enough to keep Kunchala in the running.
ELIMINATED: Berywam
There's no question that this beatboxing group from AGT Season 14 got the party started with an original jam — it just wasn't a very long party thanks to the superfans.
ELIMINATED: Jeanick Fournier
Have you ever wondered what Celine Dion singing Lady Gaga's "I'll Never Love Again" would sound like? Me neither, but we certainly know now!
Even though the winner of Canada's Got Talent Season 2 won't be continuing in the competition, there's no denying that a star was (re)born with this performance.
ELIMINATED: Jimmie Herrod
The popular crooner from AGT Season 16 treated viewers to a beautiful cover of Joji's "Glimpse of Us," reminding everyone how he made it to the Top 10 back in 2021. Unfortunately, it wasn't music to the superfans' ears this time around.
ELIMINATED: Lioz
The judges weren't originally crazy about this comedic mentalist, who already competed in three different Talent shows around the world — and his All-Stars debut did nothing to change that. "The first time, you were good stupid," Cowell told him. "This is bad stupid." Ouch.
ELIMINATED (THIRD PLACE): Caly Bevier
Cowell's first-ever Golden Buzzer recipient from Season 11 of AGT returned with "Head Held High," an empowering original anthem which Mandel referred to as "Halsey-esque." The inspirational musician, an ovarian cancer survivor, received enough votes to finish in the top three.
ELIMINATED (RUNNER-UP): Terry Fator
A turtle puppet singing Andrea Bocelli's "The Prayer"? An Elton John puppet singing "Rocket Man"? Elton John and the turtle teaming up for a duet? The winner of AGT Season 2 didn't even break a sweat showing the children how it's done, and the superfans rewarded his efforts by almost keeping him around for another week. Almost.
SAFE (SUPERFAN VOTE): Bello Sisters
These acrobatic sisters believe they could have won AGT Season 15 had the finale been conducted in-person. (Curse you, Covid!) But there was nothing virtual about Monday's fiery, gravity-defying routine, which became even more momentous when paired with a dramatic rendition of "I Ran" by A Flock of Seagulls.
And the superfans agreed, choosing to keep them in the competition.
