Doctor Odyssey's Joshua Jackson Won't Let 9-1-1 Crossover Kill TVLine's Fever Dream Theory — Watch Interview
Joshua Jackson plays a life-saving doctor on ABC's Doctor Odyssey — but in real-life, the actor is committed to an even more important cause: Keeping TVLine's Fever Dream Theory alive.
For the uninitiated, we developed a working theory last fall: Dr. Max Bankman (played by Jackson) never recovered from COVID, and The Odyssey isn't a ship at all — it's heaven, beckoning Max to cross over to the other side.
But now that ABC has announced a March 20 crossover with 9-1-1 — featuring the very much alive Athena Grant (played by Angela Bassett) — not to mention Avery's fall finale pregnancy reveal, is it time to put our theory out to pasture once Season 1 returns on Thursday, March 6 (ABC, 9/8c)? (Or, in this case, cast it out to sea?)
According to Jackson, our completely made-up (but almost certainly accurate) mythology for the ABC sudser isn't necessarily dead in the water.
"We've already established that Max has brought the television viewing that he was doing while in the COVID isolation room into the fantasy that is The Odyssey," he says, referring to Episode 3, when "Human Ken" boarded the ship for a week. "Perhaps 9-1-1 was running as well, and he has brought that character into his fantasy.
"I like this theory a lot," Jackson adds, though he cannot definitively say whether we're right or wrong. He does, however, point out that our hypothesis isn't without its holes.
"Max imagines other people having sex a lot if it is his COVID fever dream," he acknowledges.
But so what?! The man is lonely and trapped in a liminal state — he deserves to have some good old-fashion, dirty fun.
